BEROOKS COUNTY TO FRONT.
it Will'Ask for Part of $2,000,000 Ap
propriation for Highways.
Quitman, Oct. 9.—Brooks county will
be among the first in the state to ask
for part of the $2,000,000 appropriated
for highways which will be given the
state by the government. At the
mecting of the county confmissioners
today formal application was made.
The county already has a road sur
vey and profile of certain important
roads in the county and is in readi
ness to avail itself of the road fund.
S. B. Slack, head of road engineering
of the state university at Athens,
made this survey last spring for the
county. He attended the meeting of
ithe commissioners this morning and
discussed the porblem of wisely ap
plying the federal funds. It has been
decided to use the funds to build a
link in the Bainbridge-Waycross-'
Brunswick highway from Quitman to|
the Lowndes county line at Blue
Springs, a much traveled road.

SEED PRICES SENSATICNAL. .
Quitman, Oct. 6.—The phenomenal
advances in the price of coiton seed
i= one of the sensations of the mar
ket liere. Seed are selling here at $5l
and have gone to $53 and $54. Many
farmers expect further advances. One
farmer hrought in an ordinary two
horse wagon load of sced yesterday
and got $73.37 for it. The value of
seed is enhanced by the fact that af
ter the linters, meal and oil are taken,
there is enough fibre to make the‘
hulls valuable, as this fibre is used‘
in manufacturing explosives. Even at!
this high price many farmers are
saving seed to compost for fertilizers.
