A REAL SANTA CLAUS.
A Mountaineer—
A rugged son of toil;
With little thought,
And less of ken.
His children six—
With ruddy faces all;
Wife and motehr
Neath mountain sod.
They move to town
At yule tide’s early dawn.
Kris Krinkle tales,
Not heard before,
They stir his soul,
And to his children tells
Of Santa Claus;
The chimney down;
Of stockings full; .
Of toys for girls and boys;
The whiskered man,
The pack and all.
With simple faith,
They, all, have now retired;
The father wakes
And thinks he hears
Old Santa Claus
Down the chimney scramble.
So much absorbed
With tales he’s heard
He cannot sleep,
And when old Santa's gone
With eager steps
He then draws near.
Empty stockings!
Astonished he, at this
Revealed. Young sleepers
Must not share.
With stealthy steps
He leaves the little ones,
And e’er the dawn
Kris Kringle seeks.
Through open door
Views toys and balls and dolls—
With treasures lade
He’s homeward bound;
And as he walks
He bends beneath his pack.
The stockings filled
old Santa Sleeps.
At morn, with joy,
Fach child 1c stockings bound,
And krew the tales
They licurd arve true.
The mountaineer
Kris Kringle too had found.
And year by year,
oOld Santa came
with eager zest,
Till all had older grown.
He’s grandpa now,
And Santa Claus;
The whiskered man,
With toys and balls and dolls;
The genial smile,
The pack and all. —A. M. S.

jPRETTY LIBRARY DECORATIONS.
.~ The Christmastide is suggested on
every hand in the store, in the shop
and the home. And public institutions
with their decorations give evidence
that Kriss Kringle will be an early
visitor. Especially striking in its hol
iday attire of mistletoe and holly is
the interior of the public library,
where hundreds of little children and
groun-ups gather to read the tales and
fables of the gladsome Yuletide. The
deccrations here are the executions
of Misses Louise Bercaw and Har
‘riette Carswell librarians, and to
their credit it must be said that the
‘arrangement is appropriate and de
lightfully suggestive. :
