Mrs. Carl Tibbets' of Gainesville,

District Federatioin of Women s
dubs entertained the Jefferson Wo
nn’s Club on Monday afternoon
with an interesting story, “Fairy
Land” from Arabian Knights. Mrs.
Tibbets is a charming platform
speaker, with an attractive voice
and manner. She was heard with
much pleasure.
Other greatly enjoyed parts on
the program were an instrumental
solo by Mrs. R- D. Gasaway and a
report by Misses Sara Deaton and
Nell Tolbert of their visit to Girl’s
State held at Wesleyan College.
Mrs. L. H. Isbell presided, Mrs. L.
J. Lyle read the collect and the
minutes. Mrs. C. M. Davis and Mrs.
Kate R. Jackson were welcomed as
new members and Mrs. Carl Porter
and Mrs. Charles Burgess as visi
tors.
The club voted to contribute
$25.00 to the school library. Mrs.
Bill Spratlin made the treasurers
report.
The Ninth District annual meet
ing will be held in Commerce on
October 24.

D.A.R. Meeting
In Commerce
Mrs. M. T. Sanders entertained
the James Pittman Chapter, Daugh
ters of the American Revolution at
her home on Tuesday, in Com
merce.
This was the first meeting of the
new year and was well attended.
The business session was presided
over by Mrs. C. E. Pittman, regent.
The chapter will give the Patri
otic Song prizes in the Grammar
School, and History prizes in the
Senior grade this year. The chapter
voted that each member contribute
one dollar to the new building of
the National Society being built in
Washington, D. C-, at headquarters.
Mrs. J. T. Stovall, Jr. led in Pledge
to the Flag, American’s Creed and
D. A. R. Creed. The Star Spangled
Banner was sung.
Mrs. John Montgomery gave a
“Sketch of Georgia in the Colonial
Period,” also the “Bill of Rights”
which includes the first ten Amend
ments to the Constitution.
The hostesses, Mrs. Ragan H. San
ders and Miss Lillian Pittman,
served ice cream and cake during
the social hour.
The next meeting will be held
with Miss Annie Hawkins at her
home at Apple Valley at 3 o’clock,
November Bth.
Hay Ride, Weiner
Roast for Teen Agers
Jimmy McMullan was host re
cently at a most delightful Hay
Ride and Weiner Roast at his coun
try home near Thyatira. He was
assisted in the entertainment of his
guests by his mother and brother,
Mrs. J. L. McMullari and Thomas
McMullan.
The guests were Terrell Benton,
Marvin Hall, Lester Toney, Donald
Cole, Locke Potts, Billy Wilbanks,
Charles Davis, Jimmy Sailors, Mary
Francis Gilbert, Caroline Storey,
Caroline Wier, Jackie Marlowe,
Anna Jane Lynn, Marie Lynn, Jerry
Maddox, Martha Jean Adams, Pam

Business Women’s
Circle Meeting
The Business Women’s Circle held
its regular monthly meeting Tues
day night, October 4th, with Mrs.
L. J. Lyle.
I The meeting was opened with a
j song followed by the Watchword
given in unison by the Circle.
There were eleven members pres
, ent. The Circle welcomed Mrs. Clif
! ford Spratlin as anew member.
Roll call and minutes of the last
meeting were read and approved.
The treasurer reported $8.25 for
missions, and $7.75 for the Circle,
making a total of $16.00.
A short business session wa3 held,
reports from different committees
were given; also, old and new busi
ness attended to.
Miss Frances Staton had charge
of the program, a most interesting
one was given. Those taking part
were Miss Elizabeth Echols, Mrs.
Carlan, Mrs. Patrick, Mrs. Lyle,
Mrs. Garrison and Mrs. DaHisman.
Members present: Mrs. L. J. Lyle,
Ethel Dadisman, Elizabeth Echols.

ved by the hostesses. The Circle
adjourned to meet with Miss Fran
ces Staton in November, with Mrs.
J D. Matheson in charge of tke
program.

Bridge Club Meets
With Mrs. Escoe
Mrs. J. D. Escoe was hostess to
the Friday Bridge Club last week
and entertained most delightfully
at her home on Park Ave.
Mrs. J. C. Alexander made high
score.
Dinner Party
At Wilson Home
Mrs. Paul Wilson entertained at
dinner Wednesday evening. Covers
were laid for Mr. and Mrs. R. F.
Fowler, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Lyle,
Mr. Hoyt A. Cooper of Winder, and
Mrs. Wilson, Miss Jennie Wilson.
The affair was marked by the
gracious hospitality of the hostess
and her charming little daughter.

Mr. and Mrs. C E. Rankin went to
Franklin, N. C., last Sunday to visit
the former’s aunt, Mrs. J. T. Moore,
who is seriously ill. Mrs. Moore is
92 years of age.

Sanders, of Gainesville and Roches
ter, N. Y., were visiting relatives,
Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Anderson in
Jefferson over the week-end.

abeth Gordon, all of Athens.
After spending a week with their
parents, Col. and Mrs. W. P. Frost,
Mrs. Lee Wright has returned to
Baton Rouge, La., and M. C. Frost
to Washington City.
Mrs. Ellie Gordon is spending sev
eral days in Decatur with her
daughter, Mrs. W. H. Hosch.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Burgess
have moved to Jefferson from Co
lumbus. Mr. Burgess is connected
with the Jefferson Mills.
