JCSO incidents - Hoschton
Arcade PD
Elderly abuse reported in Hoschton
A man reported his elderly parents are possibly being
abused by his aunt in Hoschton.
Officers with the Jackson County Sheriffs Office were
called for threats and elderly abuse on Kiley Drive. The
complainant said his aunt moved in with his elderly parents
last year and refused to move out.
The woman reportedly "takes advantage” of the couple
and their “good will” by threatening suicide when she
doesn’t get her way. In a recent incident, the woman said
she’d kill herself if the couple didn’t give her $300.
The complainant said he’s afraid the woman will hurt or
kill his parents during one of her outbursts. She reportedly
had to be previously restrained from attacking the elderly
woman.
According to the incident report, the woman also has a
history of attempting suicide.
Officers advised the complainant on his options for get
ting the woman out of the house. He plans to ask her to move
out again and hopes she’ll get help.
OTHER INCIDENTS
Other incidents reported to the JCSO in Hoschton were:
•burglary on Ward Road where someone broke into a shed
and took a pellet rifle and chainsaws.
•suicide threats on Indian Creek Way where a woman said
she wanted to get in a vehicle and drive into the back of a
truck. She later told officers she made the threats to get her
estranged husband's attention and noted the seven beers she
drank may have contributed to her depression. She said she
didn’t plan to hurt herself.
•simple battery-Family Violence Act (FVA) on Briarwood
Court where a woman reportedly became violent when she
went to her mother’s house to retrieve her belongings. The
suspect reportedly struck her juvenile sister in her face. The
juvenile also hurt her arm while trying to stop the suspect
from closing a door. Officers didn't see any injuries and no
one wanted to press charges.
•felony criminal damage to property on Hwy. 53 where
a man said someone scratched the letters, “F-U” onto his
vehicle. He listed two ex-girlfriends as the suspect. One of
them previously slashed his tires.
•damage to property on Lamar Lane where a man said
someone drove through his mother-in-law’s yard. Offi
cers said it appeared someone made a wide turn and went
through the yard.
•information on Gum Springs Church Road where some
one reported two people were in an altercation and one of
them started walking down the roadway. Another man called
in around the same time, saying he was trying to calm his
14-year-old son down. The son reportedly has “mental
health issues” and was having an “episode.” Officers didn’t
find the suspects in the area. The man later called in, saying
his son had calmed down and they left the scene.
•found property on Hwy. 332 where someone found a
notebook they believed belonged to a man who recently died
in a car crash.
•verbal dispute on Hwy. 60 where a woman and her
brother got into an argument. The woman just wanted him
to leave, so the man got his belongings and left the scene.
•theft by shoplifting on Hwy. 124 West where a woman
reportedly “hurried” out of a store with a bag in her hand
and set off the alarm.
•verbal dispute on Amaranth Trail where two long-time
friends got into an argument. One of the men refused to
leave when the homeowner asked him to after the dispute.
He eventually called a cab.
•noise complaint on Settlers Pointe where three men were
riding four-wheelers in a field. The complainant said they
were "extremely loud and causing a nuisance.” One of the
men reportedly told the complainant they weren't going to
stop, but they left the area before officers arrived.
•information on William Freeman Road where a man
reported four-wheelers were driving down a dirt road.
•suspicious activity on Freedom Parkway where a man
was seen driving a vehicle without a tag.
•suspicious activity on Stoneview Drive where a man
reported a suspicious vehicle at his neighbor’s house. The
vehicle owner was the resident of the house and told officers
she came back early from vacation.
•civil dispute on Hwy. 124 where a man said a company
refused to return his wife’s tools after she left her job, but the
company said the woman didn't leave anything.
BRASELTON
Incidents reported to the JCSO in Braselton were:
•dispute on Lingerfelt Lane where a man said his sister
was being held at a residence against her will. The woman
told officers she and a man got into an argument and she told
her brother about it. She said everything was O.K. and she
planned to leave with a friend.
•welfare check on Huntington Hills Drive where a man
reportedly attempted suicide but refused to talk to officers.
A woman in the residence told them everything was O.K.
•battery on New Liberty Church Road where a woman
said her live-in boyfriend struck her in the face during an
argument. She later called 9-1-1 after the man refused to
leave. He eventually left before officers got there. The com
plainant had visible injuries.
•mailboxes damaged by tractor-trailer on Hwy. 53.
•harassment on 1-85 South where a woman said people
she “has problems with” from New Jersey may have fol
lowed her to Georgia.
•information on New Liberty Way where someone report
edly ran stop signs.
•noise complaint on Butterfly Lane where a man reported
people were playing loud music during a backyard party.
The homeowner apologized and said everyone was leaving.
•agency assist on New Cut Road with a two-car accident.
One passenger said she hit her head and was transported to
Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton.
•welfare check on Davenport Road where a woman and
man got into an argument. The woman told officers every
thing was O.K.
•battery-FVA on Hickory Bluff where a woman reportedly
became angry with her mother after she picked up a child.
The suspect reportedly said her mother loved the child more
than her child. According to the mother, the suspect has a
drug addiction and is moody. She reportedly grabbed the
mother’s arm, pushed her, kicked her and punched her in
the face, but the mother didn't report it. Only after the sus
pect returned to the residence later did the mother call the
police. Officers spoke with the suspect, who said, “you see
what that b***h done to me,” pointing to parts of her body
that didn’t have any visible injuries. She got her boyfriend
to come pick her up.
•suspicious activity on Ednaville Road where a woman
said another woman left the residence without telling her.
The suspect is on probation and was supposed to notify the
complainant when she left the house.
•suicide attempt on Garner Road where a woman cut her
wrists and was transported to the hospital. She denied trying
to kill herself.
•information on Goldcrest Drive where a man wanted
information on county ordinances after seeing a fellow
employee park repossessed cars in the cul-de-sac of his
neighborhood.
•verbal dispute on Hwy. 60 where a man said his brother
drove away and left him after an argument. The two report
edly drank alcohol the night before and the brother was
upset that they overslept and he was late for work.
•animal complaint on Cooper Bridge Road where a
woman said her neighbors hadn’t been home in several days
to take care of their animals. She first told officers the ani
mals didn’t have water, but later said they had dirty water.
She then told officers her neighbor is in drug court and still
uses drugs. When asked why she didn’t call animal control
about the original issue, the woman said “no, because that
guy over there does not like me.” Officers told her they’d
forward her complaint.
•interference with custody on Hwy. 53 where a woman
said her child’s father refused to return the child to her. The
man told officers he opened a case with the Department of
Family and Children Services and said a case worker told
him not to return the child. That was untrue, according to
DFCS, but the man did open a case. He eventually agreed to
let the child go with the complainant.
JCSO incidents - Maysville
Passports, plane tickets found in bag
A deputy received a
black leather bag from a
“concerned citizen” on
Wheeler Cemetery Road.
The bag had two pass
ports, one from Lebanon
and one from the U.S.
Both had the same per
son's photograph, but dif
ferent names and birth
dates with each.
Two used airline ticket
stubs also were in the bag.
Both tickets were for Istan
bul, Turkey, but were for
dates several years apart.
A binder with company
checks from a Duluth busi
ness also was found.

Other incidents in the
Maysville area report
ed to the Jackson County
Sheriff’s Office recently
include:
•a man said his wife and
he allowed a woman to live
with them until May 19.
After she moved out, they
discovered items missing.
The items included a rifle,
revolver, tablet, collector's
knife and some costume
jewelry. He said no one had
broken into the house and
no one else had been there.
•a man wanted the
sheriff’s office to issue a
criminal trespass warn
ing against a woman he
thought had been on his
property looking for horses
she owned. He said he had
horses that had been taken
from her by animal control
because she had not cared
for them properly. He said
she believes the horses are
at his house. The warn
ing was not issued because
the woman was not on the
property.
•a woman said her juve
nile son was being dis
respectful to her and his
grandparents. She said he
had been “screaming and
cursing at them for telling
him to get off the cell
phone and get ready for
bed.”
•a man said he had
been partying on Jackson
Woods Drive after the race
May 20 and a man took
his favorite pair of shoes.
He said he did not know
the brand. They cost about
$70 two years ago.
•a man said he let his
brother borrow his truck,
which he did not return.
He said he believed his
brother let his wife have
the truck and she left it at
a Hickory Lane address.
The man got the truck from
that address while a deputy
waited for him.
JCSO safety alert
JCSO issues ‘safety alert’ after
ATM robberies in nearby county
Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum
released a safety alert last week after
several ATM robbery reports in Gwinnett
County.
Gwinnett County has reported numerous
cases of people being followed after they
pull away from an ATM. Victims reported
they get hit slightly from behind as if it was
an accident, then the suspects steal money
from them, according to the post.
“Please be aware of your surroundings
after you leave an ATM and call 9-1-1
immediately if this occurs and keep them
on the phone while you drive to a safe
area and police arrive,” according to the
post. "Provide the best lookout you can
safely obtain. It’s also possible the vehicle
in front of the victim is involved as well;
they may go slow and/or stop to cause the
accident.”

leads to multiple
charges in Arcade
A Jefferson man was
arrested on family vio
lence, drug and gun
charges May 21 after a
domestic dispute at 150
Old Georgia Highway 82.
Arcade Lt. Michael
Adams said Douglas Lee
Oliver Jr. faces eight
charges in the incident.
Lee was charged with
aggravated assault - fami
ly violence, battery - fam
ily violence, two counts
of third-degree cruelty
to children, possession
of marijuana, possession
with intent to distribute
marijuana, possession of
a firearm during the com
mission of a crime and
possession of tools for the
commission of a crime.
Jackson County sher
iff’s deputies responded
to the domestic abuse that
involved Lee and his live-
in girlfriend. She said Lee
hit her and tried to stran
gle her with his hands.
Adams said there was
physical evidence to sup
port her charge.
Deputies found Lee in
the garage and also saw,
“in plain view,” a hand
gun, marijuana roaches,
methamphetamine and
several glass smoking
devices. Adams also said
Lee had no clothes on
when he was found.
Deputies also report
ed finding two dogs “in
extremely poor health”
and with “possible broken
bones” in the garage.
Adams said officers
found six guns and “mul
tiple ounces” of marijua
na after he got a search
warrant.

include:
• a man said two trucks
pulled into his neighbor’s
drive when he was watch
ing the property for her.
He said a woman went in
a camper parked behind
the house and tried with
out success to get in the
house. He said he did
not see the people take
anything from the prop
erty. An officer met a
woman who also lives at
the house and she did not
find anything taken.
•a man complained
he could not get a copy
of his father's will. His
father died and named a
woman as executor. He
said the will was not
read in his presence. The
woman who is executor
said the man has been
threatening her in calls or
text messages. She gave
the officer a copy of the
will and said she had it
in her car to give to the
man’s sister. The officer
gave the copy to the man
and said the woman does
not want more contact
with him.
•an officer responded to
two calls May 17 about
VIN verifications on trail
ers, one on Windy Hill
Court and one on Ram
blers Inn Road.
•a woman complained
that a man on a Honda
CBR speed bike motorcy
cle was driving on South
Trotters Road at high
speed and on one wheel,
with the front of the cycle
in the air. She said she
asked the driver to slow
down and he "became
verbally combative” and
left at a high rate of speed.
She said he lives in the Trot
ters Ridge Subdivision. An
officer later saw the motor
cycle in Arcade and infor
mation fit the description of
the rider.
•a diner reported an alter
cation between two employ
ees at a local restaurant. It
happened in front of cus
tomers. One employee made
"profane remarks” to anoth
er employee who threw
"something hitting (the first
man) in the face.” A woman
who also works there said
she was the live-in girlfriend
of the second man. She said
she slapped the first employ
ee for his insulting remarks.
The second man left before
an officer arrived. No one
wanted to file charges.

FREE SPEECH? - A North
Carolina school district has de
cided to “take up” all the year
books that had been distributed
at a local high school because
a senior used the phrase “Build
that wall” as her senior quote.
Apparently, this was deemed an
“inappropriate comment.”
The senior involved said she
has been threatened by hundreds
of people she doesn’t even know
“just because I quoted our presi
dent.”
Whether you want a wall
or don’t want a wall is not the
point. The point is, in America,
you should be able to express
your opinion, even if someone
else does not agree with it. More
and more, free speech is being
stifled. The district should return
the yearbooks and apologize.
