Hfturnrd Pikes Teakers- Several gentlemen who were induced to leave their families and friends in this neighborhood, a few months since, for tlio land of gold, have returned with unfavor able accounts of this great reported Kido rado of the West. They say the gold may be there, but if so it is yet undiscovered especially in quantities sufficient to make it an object of so much excitement. We ate of the opinion that miners and gold hunters could do no better busiacss than bv testing the great belt extending across Northern Georgia trom Carrol county throngh Paulding, Cobb, Cass, Cherokee, Pickene, G'lmer, Lumpkin, Union and Rabun counties. That there* is immense quantities of it to be found along this belt, is obvious from the amount of gold that has already been obtained by surface min ing. It is the general opinion of miners that there is a vein of gold, not yet dis covered, traversing this whole region of country—and which if ever discovered, will prove to be one of the richest in the world. All that has been obtained has been procured from pockets and from the surface. It has been announced several times that this great vein had been discov ered, but up to this time, if such has been the case, no developements have been made by the discoverer to make it war rantable, At present the gold fever along this belt is tolerably high ; from recent discoveries, and the number of hunters no w exploring this region, with the appara tus they intend to apply to bring the mat ter to light, we hope soon to hear that the discovery has indeed been made. We be lieve it is here in immense quantities and if we live a few years longer, shall expect to see these mountains and hills along this belt, battered down and a large portion of them sent adrift into the Gulf of Mexi co.—Carters ville Express. ty During the first settlement of Orow fordville, .Georgia, the native place of Al exander H. Stephens, a leading member of the present Congress, the Commission ers passed an ordinance prohibiting any juggler from operating within the carporale limits without the payment of a certain li cense, Before many days the Marshal presented to the. honorable Board of Com missioners a juggler who had refused to pay his license. When asked how he knew him to be a juggler, he replied’ “ Why hi'* got a carl load of jugs right down lure now /” A northern paper is accountable for the above. Os course, there is not a word of truth in it, it’s a vile slander. Does any one suppose that any inhabitant of that “native place” don’t know what a juggler is? Preposterous!— Dispatch. • Extract of a letter dated Greenesboro,’ Ga., Ist June. 1860. On the evening of the, 28th ult., a por tion of our county was visited by the most destructive hail storm that 1 have ever kpown —the hail stones as large as a hen's egg. The farmers in that section are now ploughing up both corn and cottoil, to plant corn. The wheat and oat crop was it total loss, only what the stock can get. The trees, in places, were completely strip ped of their leaves. BP Here is a singular sentence : “Sator arepo tenet opera rotas.’’ 1 This spells backward and forward all the same. 2 Then taking all the first lettbrs of each word spells the first word. 3 Then all the second letters of each word spells the second word. 4 l lien all the third ; and so on through the fourth and fifth. 5 Then commencing with the last lotter of each word spells the last word. 0 Then the next to the last of each word ; and so on through. A duel recently took place between two Dutchmeu near Stockton, Cal., which grew out of the remark made by the challenged party that he would sooner believe a Chi naman or a negro than the challenger. Three shots were fired by the party with out any injury, when the offensive remark was modified by the challenged party, who stated that he would believe his op ponent as readily as he would a Chinaman or a negro, and tho latter declared himself satisfied with the apology. _To Encourage the Growth of Hair and Prevent its Turning Grey. —A young lady friend of mine was recommended by a coiffeur to use sage water. She was ob liged to discontinue its daily use, as it made her hair too thick. Pour boiling water on sage leaves, and let them remain some time in the oven or near a stove ; then strain and apply to the root of the hair daily. If any pomade is needed, an equal mixture of cocoa-nut and olive oils with a little perfume, is very efficacious. London Field. The Evening News is responsible for the following: On our way to the Court, at nine o’clock, ■we observed a Covered wagou with a lit tle black boy, several hqads of cabbages, And an aged negro womau in it, under the charge of a policeman, who was leading the horse to the Guard House. It seemed that the vehicle was being driven without A license as the law directs, and, therefore, the arrest of the whole concern ; but the old woman not understanding this, and supposing it was some compliment to her particularly, spread her mouth from ear to to ear, aud bore the most joyous counten ance ever seen. It appeared after niriv ing at the station, that she was pleased at the idea of hoing escorted through the city by a soldier in uniform, for, as she leaded from the wagon, site exclaimed : **W ho'ri a tought dat massa’s old nigger Beck would ebber come to hah a sojer dribe um true do streets ob Charl’s’u.” Executed.—lfilSy H. Ayer, Lowell, Mass.*— Sir: ] take my pen to tell you what your Sarsapa rilla and Cathartic Pills have done lor me. I been afflicted with Liver Complaint for six years, du ring which I was never well, and much of the time very sick. My liver was sore to the touch,’ and the Doctors said was congestion. I suffered frotti severe costivencss and Diarrhoea ultimately. My skin was clammy and unhealthy ; my eyes and vkin often vel low. Occasionally I had a voracious appetite, but generally none at all. A dreadful .sensation of op pression on my stomach, with languor and a gloomy sensation of sickness all over, kept me in anguish.— You cannot, know how much I suffered from an inde scribable feeling of distress. The long continuance of this condition, without relief, had worn me out so that I never expected to be better; but reading in Ibe Christian Advocate, of your Sarsaparilla, I coin menced taking it with occasional ejr.all doses of your Pills, to rogfulate the bowels as you direct. From the first it had more effect upon my disorder than 1 supposed anything could have. I regained my health rapidly, and now after eleven weeks, enjoy as good health and strength as any other..man. * May tbe Dispenser of all good shower bleeainea on you. John W. Stott. Pepsred by J. Abovi, we present you with a perfect likeness of Tezuca, a chief of a tribe of the strange Aztec Nation, that once ruled Mexico. You will And a full account of him a*d his people in our Pamphlets and Almanacs—to be bad gratis, from the Agents for these Pills. Tbo inventor aud manufacturer of “JudsonV* Monti t*n Herb PiHs,” has spent the greater part of his life i traveling, having visited nearly every country in the world. He spent over six years among the Indians of the Rocky Mountains and of Mexico, aud it was time that the Mountain Herb Pills” were discovered. Avery interesting account of his adventures there, you will tiud in our Almanac and Pamphlet. It is an established feet, that all diseases arise from IMPURE BLOOD I Tbe blood is the life 1 and when any foreign or unhealthy matter gets mixed with it, it is at once distributed to •very organ of the body. Every nerve feels the poison, and all the vital organs quickly cemplain. Tbe stomach will not digest tbe food perfectly. The liver ceases to secrete a sufficiency V bile. The action of the heart is weakened, and so the circulation is feeble. The lungs become ciogged with the poisonous matter ; hence, a cough—and all from a slight impurity at the fountain head of life—the Blood! As if you had throwu r ome earth, for instance, in a pure spring, from which ran a tiny nvulet, in a few minutes the whole course of tlse stream becomes disturbed aud dlftcolored. As quickly does impure blood fly to every part, and leave ita sting behind. All the passages become obstructed, and unless tbe obstruction is removed, the lamp o f life Boon dies out. These pills not only purify the blood, but regenerate all the secretions of tbe body; they are, therefore, unrivalled as a CURE FOR BILIOUS DISEASES, Liver Complaint, Sick Headache, Ac. This Anti H fonts Medicine expels from the blood the hidden seeds of dis ease, aud renders all the fluids and secretions pure and fluent, clearing and resuscitating the vital organs. Pleasant indeed, is it to ÜB, that we are able to place within your reaeh, a medicine like the “ Mountain Hkmu Pilub,” that will pass directly to tbe afflicted parts, through tbe blood and fluids of the body, and cause the sufferer to brighten with the flush of beauty aud health.
