Evening Prnjer. K rM long ago, when I, ft child, •Wpa nestled snogly in my bedr Ad eoothed to reet, by accents mild, Os evening prayer, by father said. ‘Twee long ago, but oh ! how few, Are left in that once happy home. The conqo’ring Angel, passing thro’ Hae robbed ns of them, one by one. ’Twaalong ago, but o’er my heart, A sense of rest and peace doth come Though to ray eyeejhe tears will start, When thinkingof my boyhoods home. And then I think I hear the'tones. Oi father kneeling by his chair. And see again thejcberished ones, Allgath ’red round, in ev’ning prayer. Eatufer of Lucifer Matches. —The New fork Sun says that the operatives employ ad in factories where Lucifer matches are made, are subject to amaliguant, and often fetal complaint, which is known as the ••match disease.” It is produced by the Inhalation of the phosphoric acid used in the factory, seriously affecting the jaw and teeth. We learn, it says, from the physicians is quite common among those who work in match factories, and that it is dangerous for any one with diseas ed teeth to be employed in the manufac ture of lucifer matches. They also state that the disease may be contracted by those who have diseased teeth by lighting cigars oi a pipe with lucifers, and inhaling the phosphor which is liberated by their ignition. It is well for people to understand this fact, and, as the doctors •sy, if a person has a diseased tooth, he or Ahejshould have it removed at once, and thus escape all danger of the match dis ea®. _ Chetmey Sauce.-’' Tho following recipe if furnished the Edgefield Advertiser by a gentleman who is au fait in many things, and who ventures to predict that every lady who tries it wil) like it: “Take eight ounces of sharp Apples— jrared and cored ; the same weight of Salt, Tomatoes, Raisins and Brown Sugar. Red Pepper and Powdered Ginger, each fb Jr ounces, Garlic and Eschallottes eacu x to ounces. Pound these ingredients separately in a mortar, mix them thoroughly ; add three quarts of vinegar and one quart of Lemon- Place the jar containing the com position, on a stove, or by tho side of a five, in ft heat not less than 130 deg. Fahrenheit. —Srrr. it twice a day for a month; then strain it, but do not squeeze the residue dry; bottle tbe liquor, which is an excellent ■aaoe for any kind of fish or meat, hot or cold. ‘ A teaspoonful will impart a pleas ant flavor to any ragout, or be sufficient for a pint of broth. The residue should be put into pots or sa j it may be used in sauces or gravies; or may be used like mustard with cold meat, being an excellent ingredient for “devils” either wet or dry. It may be made very good with vinegar.” porcelain Faced Bricks.— The Now York Tribune has been shown a porcelain faced brick for which Mr. -D. W. Clark, of Vermont, received a patent od the 10th ult. Tbe patent, he says, consists in the amployment of zinc as a flux for the fels par and quartz with which the ordinary porcelain is made. These bricks can be furnished, be says, at forty dollars per thousand, ora building can be faced with them at less than one-thhd of the cost of marble. The material is very beautiful, and might be used for an inside as well as an outside finish with fine effect. The ■sine flux can be applied to articlos from she coarser kinds of clay, which gives it ft finish equal to any English ware import ad into this eonntry. Remedy for Poison. —A correspondent ot tbe London Literary Gazette, alluding Vo tbe numerous cmob of accidental pois oning, says: “I venture to affirm that there is not a cottage that does not contain an invalua ble certain, immediate remedy for such events, nothing more than a desert spoon ful ot made mustard, mixed in a tumbler of warm water, and drank immediately. It acts as an emetic, is always ready, and may be used in any case where one is re quired. But take this simple antidote, and yon may he the means of saving a fellow-creature from an untimely end. Almost a Tragedy— Arrest of the of /bnder.—Some little stir was produced in our streets yesterday afternoon by the ar rest of a young man named John Story, who, we are informed, while in a state of Intoxication, had a difficulty with one or two of our citizens, at the Livery Stable of W. E. Archer, threatening their lives, He had barely left the scene of the Juarrel, when those efficient police officers, [esrrs. King and Ford, started in pursuit. They succeeded in overtaking and arrest ing him. though not without difficulty, on Mclntosh street, between Broad and Rey nolds. He snapped a pistol at officer King, before he was captured. He Was commit ted to joil to await an examination before the Magistrate to-day. —Cron If Sent 30th. Such a remedy wo are now enabled to offer, with ft perfect certainty that it will eradicate the disease, and with assurance, found ed on proof, that no harm can arise from it* ue in anv quantity. That which protects from or prevent* this disor der must be of immense service m the cdmmqpiiics I where it prevails. It is not the best remedy ever yet discovered for thia Wa complaints, but also the cheapest. It is hoped this priie will place it within the reach of all, the poor as well as the rich. A great superiority, of this remedy over any other ever discovered for the speedy and corfuin cure of Intermittcnts is, that it contains no Quinine or mineral, consequently if produces no quinism or other injurious effects wlL ever upon the constitution. Those cured by it a. left as healthy as if they had never had tho diseaso. Fever and” Ague is not alone the conseqncnce of tho miasmatic poison. Thi* “ Cube ” expels tho poison from the blood, and con sequently cures them all alike. It is an invaluable protection to immigraitts, and persons travelling or temporarily residing in the numinous districts. If taken occasionally or daily, while exposed to tbs infection, that will bo excreted from the system, and cannot accumulate in sufficient quantity to ripen into disouso. Hence it is,even more valuable for protec tion than cure, and few will ever suffer from Inter mittent*, if they avail themselves of tho protection this remedy affords.
