DR. PIERCES
GOLDEN MEDICAL
| DISCOVERY
“ I have been thinking of writing to
you for some time," writes Mrs. W. D.
Benson, of Maxton, Robeson Co., N. C.,
“to let you know what a wonderful thing
Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery
did for my little boy. He was taken
with indigestion when he was a year
and a half old, and he was under the
doctor's treatment for five long years.
We spent all we made for doctor's bills,
and it did no good. He could not eat
anything only a little milk and cracker,
and sometimes even this would make
him sick, and he got very weak; could
not sit up all day, and I gave up all hope
of his ever getting any better. Looking
over one of your books I noticed Dr.
Pierce's Golden Medical Discover)- rec
ommended for indigestion. We bought
some and gave to our lx>y. Two bottles
of Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discov
ery cured him. He is well as can be,
and can eat anything that he wants and
it does not hurt him. He has not l>een
sick a day since, and it has been three
years since he took your medicine. I
pray that God will always bless you and
your medicine.”

AUD LUNGS
Fairly Good Time.
Seated around a Tojieka railroad
lunch counter the other day were four
old Santa b'e engineers. They were
telling of fast runs Three of them bad
told their stories. "The fastest run I
ever made." said the fourth, after lis
tening to the lies of the others, “was
between Topeka and Emporia not long
ago. It was a bright moonlight night.
We were Behind when we pulled out of
ToY>eka and bad orders to make up all
lost time between here and Emporia.
After reaching the lop of the Pauline
hill I pulled the throttle wide open and
let her go. The old engine fairly ate
up Uie track. When we stopped at
Emporia. I looked back a mile or so
and saw something black approach
ing us. 1 could not think what it was.
I watched it closely. Finally It came
up opposite the engine and stopped. It
was the shadow of the train.’’—Kansas
City Journal.
A Little nit Too Sensitive.
This cold, hard world has few souls
*s sensitive as a young man who killed
himself in Pails the other day. His
home was in Lyons, and his father
had given to him 30,(XX) francs, or SG.-
000. to establish a branch otliee of their
business in Paris. After he had been
in Paris for several days bis letters
home ceased, and he disappeared from
the little circle of friends that he had
made. He had seemed a quiet, steady
fellow, and he bad chosen his new as
sociates with discretion. When they
missed him, they wrote to bis father,
supi>oslng that bo knew where bis son
was. Tlie father, however, was igno
rant of the young man’s whereabouts,
and the police were summoned and a
search made of his apartments. Ou
the bed in bls room was found Ids dead
body, with a note by his side, which
said:
“1 have lost 25,000 francs of the sum
that my father Intrusted to me, and as
I would not have it believed that 1
have squandered the money 1 am kill
ing myself." 'lliis furnished a elew,
but nothing more could be learned for
several days. Finally, when searching
the rooms for the young man’s proper
ty, his pocketlMiok, witli the 25.0C3
francs, was found in a corner z>( the
bureau drawer, where he hud put it
and then forgotten.

It was a mean trick, of course, and
some day she will doubtless get even
with him.
She saw him take a piece of paper
from Ids pocket, carefully fold it up,
put It in an envelope and then place
the envelope in one of the far corners
of the drawer of the library table.
"What's that?" she asked.
"Oh. nothing of any consequence,”
he replied.
Now. if lie had simply thrown it care
lessly into the drawer she would have
thought nothing of it. but the care he
took to put it clear over hi the far cor
ner and the fact that he seemed ill at
ease after he found that Ids action had
been observed aroused her curiosity.
She wondered what it was. and she
reasoned with herself that he had saiil
it was "nothing of importance,” so he
would have nobody but himself to
blame if she took a look at it. She wps

that there was no reason why she
should not. And this Is what she read
