x twe since bj tbe Star, was indeed excel
jgßt—©ould’at b« beat; bat we were not so
seriously damaged as a literal construction
tba letaarfca of that reliable journal, would
Br — to imply; we think we came away
from the entertainment entirely capable of
pilling the facts of the ease, rather feeling
improved than damaged thereby.
Thk Ladim' Home —The first number
if this journal has reached us. The litera-
Xj contents are excellent—how else could
ihey be, when gotten up under the auspices
if that accomplished editress, Mrs French ?
Tbs typographical appearance, however,
though respectable, is not—at least in the
gpeeimen we happen to have—in full keep
ing with tbe merits to which we have referred.
Ws bespeak for it the patronage of our lady
/Heads, and wish it a brilliant career.

■&» The spril of rain which, commenc
ing on last Saturday night, and continuing
in occasional showers, heavier or lighter, till
the Tneedey following, culminated on the
efternoon ot the latter-mentioned day, into a
regular tornado. Much damage, we hear,
wee dooe to fnutand shade trees, fencing,
dock, houses, and tbe grain crops. Mr.
Mariwa Mann, of this county, we are sorry
to learn, had a couple of horses killed, and
all of his otlt houses unroofed, or razed to
the ground by the violence of the tempest.
It is also rumored that two freedmen lost
their fives by the effects of the storm.
Sabbath School Concert.— The Con.
•art of the Sabbath School children, under
{fee leadership of Mr. Ufford —assisted by
eeveral of the best vooalista of Griffin, ladies
and gentlemen —according to appointment,
came off on Wednesday evening, May 30th.
The Methodist Church—in which the con
cert was held—eras filled to overflowing, and
everything went on chimingly and harmo
niously. It was a brilliant success, and re
flects to the taste and skill of all concerned
in the exercises. We thought, however,
that perhaps the adult voices stood out some
times in a little too much amplitude—rather'
shading the little voices—the hearing of
being the main inducement that car
ried most of us thither.
Grand Attractions To-Morrow
Night and next Night. — It is our privi

forty thousand feet of canvass, will be on ex
hibition to-morrow and next-day night (Fri
