At a meeting of the citiz ns of Cowet i county, to take in consideration the condi tion of the country Sml ior the relief of the citizens, on motion, Captain J. 11. Graham was called to the chair, and Judge W. M. Sparks, appointed Secretary. At the request of the chairman, John Yv. i \> \vei], Esq., was called upon to explain the object of the meeting. X\ hich he did in a very brief, plain and clegaut Run tier. AT-t which, in motion, the chairimu appointed a coiuuiiUee of five to arrange the business of the meet ing. John W. Potvdl, E.-<], C’laimnn of Corn mittec, A. J. Smith, 1? q., Simeon Whatley, XX in. Overby and 11. Y Brown were appoint ed. While the committee was out Col. \V. V- XX tight were called upon to address the meeting which lie did iu an able and elegant style, showing the true condition of the citi zens of the State—stating that the evil was apparant, and they the people must and they only among themselves can apply the reme dy. The committee entered and their re port was read. By request Andrew J. Smith then address ed the meeting on the adoption of the report and resolution of the committee, in a very touching and sensible style, followed by J. XV- Powell—for adoption—after Mr. Powell j closed, Col. \Y. T. Wright addressed the | meit.ng in opposition to the resolutions. A. J.
