To ora Cttt Scbsckiber* —Desiring to bare oar carriers attend to their duties with promptness and regularity, we would take it as a favor if those who fail to have their papers left, would notify us at once. Railroad Meeting to-Day— We fear we have almost bored the good citizens of our community, in so persistently, week after week, and, latterly, day after day, invoking them to keep in vivid remembrance the “Grand Railroad Mass Meeting,” to come off on the 13th of September— to-day, the pretent veritable to-day, now arrived, and lingeringly drawing out its hours and its minutes, as if, sympatbizingly, to give us a chance to do something—something that will prove no child’s play, but will tell, — may we hope it!—far adown in the future Jor the benefit of our children and our chil dren’s children ! This is a critical day for the road, and we believe every one who feels interested about it, has this view of it. A decision must be made to-day,—that is, ij something very unlooked-for, occurs not to prevent the meeting. If there be enough men to organize, and transact business, by all means let them proceed, nor even think of postponing it to another day. Come to a conclusion this day, that the road must and shall be built—or can not and ought not to 'be built. “ How long halt ye between two opin ions?” If you are for the railroad, say so, and act accordingly; but if you arc not, then say you are not, —shut your eyes to the fu ture, go fast asleep, and stay asleep, and ifidfdr'more talk of railroads ngain ! PaT'Nothing so becomes a man as a suit of well Tiled, well-made clothes. This being admitted, the question may very naturally *riso- i --“where and how may wo procure *uoh ?” We answer—go and sec that finish -cd tailor Mr. Smith— not the famous John— trtit Mr. C. B. Smith—whose place of busi ness you will find up-stairs over Mr. Cherry’s tetorc. There will be a regular .Meeting at the Second Baptist Church, (Marshal College,) in Griffin, next Saturday and Sunday. El derg Bukc, Dickens and L. T. Poyal, arc expected to be in attendance. Rev. I)r. A. Means is expected to preach at the Methodist Church on Friday evening, 14th instant. Services to commence at 7} o'clock. Large Ears or Corn. —.Mr. Iv L. Man ley, a worthy planter of our county, living si me mx miles cast of Griffin, placed on our table yesterday, four of the largest cars of corn, which were raised on his place, (hi.- year—not blooded corn, but the old-fashion ed gourd-seed variety—-that we have seen this season, or, wc might almost say, yny other season. The ears measund well nigh on to a dozen inclres in length, and were filled to repletion, with well ripened grains- Mr. M.’b whole corn crop is good—he hav ing planted it early, and on new ground, whereby it measurably matured before the drought set in. We were sorry to be informed by him that crops on farms adjoin- I)is, would not, some of them, produce much more than a bushel to the acre. Take totjrTime and—Bead. —Messrs. J N. Harris & Co>, Pruggi-ts and Apothecaries, advertise in our columns, this morning, that they have on hand and for sale cheap—every thing in their line of business. Their 6tock is selling very fast, but their facilities ena ble them to be fully supplied at all times with the best drugs, paints, both dry and in oil, varnishes, brushes, dye stuffs, Thompso nian medicines, lamps, kerosene oil, fancy and toilet vitides, Ac he, They keep all s uch patent medicines as have proved them selves good. Call upon them and get what Jon Want —wc warrant satisfaction. Griffin Daily llerai.k—Will Broth ers Martin & Cos., of this new Daily, please pardon our oversight in not sooner noticing the recent change of the Herald from a val uable Weekly to a still better Daily. Wc -trust that the progressive movement you have made will redound to your interest, as wc are sure it will, to the prosperity of your beautiful city.— Macon Georgia Citizen Sept. Fact* vs. Theories. “Give me a place to rest my lever on,” says Archimedes, “and I will move the world.” “Give tne pure and unadulterated drugs,” says medicos, of the olden time, “and I will cure disease.” In one sense, both of these learned pundits were the veriest charlatans. They knew there was no place to rest their lever on, either to move the world or cure disease. Mechanism was in a backward state, and the medical profession was but another name for sorcery, and all the adjuncts of magic filters and charms of the “evil e,” Ac. But these latter days have borne note .»r some thing mere than even supeisUMon and its crew ever dreamt of in their maddest philosophy. In these days of practical science, what was theory of yesterday is lact to day, and-all the old time notions become ns bubbles in the sun, and burst and break with every breath we draw. Let Archimedes shoulder his lever and we will find a resting place for it to move the world. J.et mine ancient medicus pant and toil no more for the drugs he so sorely needs, for we have them at our hand, ever ready to serve them at his beck. Refined in the laboratory of Ur. ilaggiel, the finest materials known in the medical profession are obtainable by any one. Ills bilious, Dyspep tic, and Diarrhea l’ifls stand unrivalled, and liis Salve operates with magical effect upon burns, sealds, and all sores and ulcers of the skin. In tact, we think Maggiel's Pills and Salve are the wonder of this eentuiy, and w c are happy in the thought that many others of our brethren of •he craft agree with ti». We would earnestly c**nnsel that all families.provide themselves with Dr. Maggiel's Prrp* rations at once, am! keep them ready at hand, so as to use them at the most opportune tune, ami as occasion serves. —V*M«-y Sentim l. r. ile Iv the greatest INOUGEMm OF THE SEASON AT MRS.
