Patterson, of Buckinham county, Virginia, gives tobacco growers the impor tant information that a sack of alum salt sown over an acre of the growing plant will destroy the horn worms ana also prevent the tobacco from firing. tST The Richmond Times reporter, who While on a visit to Petersburg a few days since, rode out to the “ Crater,” where the contractors are disinterring and re-burying the remains of Federal soldiers, thus speaks bf the uiauner in which the work is executed : “ It costs about eight dollars a piece to dig up and re bury these Fcderals. But as the tax is three cents per pound on cotton, about fifteen dollars per bale—we can af ford it, and ‘dem the expense.’ It is done very carelessly by the contractors. Exactly seventeen years elapsed from the Appearance of the first Asiatic' cboleia in the year 1832 until its re-appearance in 1849, and the same number of years have J’wssed since 19 49 until the visitation in the present year, giving an interval of seventeen years between each occasion. A London correspondent of the New York Times says that a movement is making to induce immigrants to go to Louisiana and other parts of the South.
