A CiDxese Loduwjo lloitsH.—There is in Pekin a “House with Chicken Feathers,” Where houseless vagabonds mav sleep for one mill (the tenth part of a cent) a night. In an immense hall the door is covered two or three feet thick with chicken feathers. The customers are introdue and into this hall and take the first place they can find; they dis appear in the feathers as it they Wutc in wat fer. All ages and both sexes lie pell mell together. Over this downy bed hangs a cau bpy as large as the hall itself; the canopy is Iliad*' of felt, and is porforutod „irli ns many oval holes as the hall nmv contain sleepers. When the hour is struck lor the closing ol tfoors this canopy is lowered to the door Every sleeper histeus to tlifust his* head through a hole in order tc bleathe fresh air and escape being suffocated by the feathers. ■Vt the hour of risit'g a gong sounds; and ea"h sleeper pull i nis head outof the hole to avoid being strangled by the can py, which is pull ed up to the ceiling by blocks and pulleys This secures the Waking of all the lodgers They then go to the office and pay their mill for their night’s lodging. Beneficial Influence of Tea. —The beneficial results of the introduction of tea and coffee have been strangely overlooked or underrated. It has been, however, well described as leading to the most wonderful bhangc that has ever taken place in t fie diet of tiloderii Civilised nation?—a change high ly important, both in A moral and physical point of view. These beverages have the admirable advantage of affording stiuiu'us Without producing intoxication or any of its evil consequences, Lovers of tea and coffee are, in fact, rarely drinkers, and hence the use of these beverages has benefitted both manners and morals. Kaynal observes that the use of tea has contributed more to the sobriety of the Chinese than the sever est laws, the most eloquent discourses, or the best treatment on morals. Tea is so lit tle drank in Germany that it acts like med icine when taken by a native, and persons decline a cup of good JJohea With, “No, 1 lhankyou ; lain quite well at present.” A Steamboatman'sCure forCiiolera. The Madison Courier has the following, from an old steamboatman, as a cholera cure ; Take one pint of pure brandy, two table Spoonfuls of black pepper, two table spoon fuls of loaf sugar, and half an ounce of gum Camphor. Put this mixture in a cup or pan, set the brandy on fire, stir it while burning and cook it well. Dose—One teaspoonful every few minutes, as warm as the person can take it. If Cramped, rub the person all over hard with the same mixture, until the skin looks red. I always keep it on hand. 1 have run the river during all the cholera seasons since 1832. I have had as many cases on my boat as any other person. The above rem cdy is all I ever used. I never Idst a man. It will cure the worst case in thirty minutes. Ihe Columbus Sun says that the Rev.
