&onl bf t n cr a lb. OTOUCITV MB OH'NTY JOMW.IL D R MARTIN DB M DEAVENPOKT •I>IT o • • . GRIFFIN. O A OCT 8. >. Trial or Untlj, Tbe United State* Cirt-uit Court van to have tnet last Monday 1 »t j at Richmond Virginia, for the purpohe of trying .1. ff irstm Davis for treason. Advices flour Richmond, of a late date, are to t’ c effect that neither the Judge has arrived, nor any of the officer* of the Court, and the impression w*s that u<erc Would be, at present, no session -i one till November, snd it might have been added, aoae no*, nor Novend>er, nor Dccciiifcrr, nor ’O6, nor '67, m r tr>r. , i The South is ocrtainly the most complete ly-conquered, whipped out, resignedly-aub dued, spirit-quenched, brow-beaten, soul depressed, and thoroughly-tamed poor nation —or rather the drhi-n of a nation—that has ever made any sort 0 f decent pri tension* that she stands off shouting loudest balls' iujahe of praise to the man that ulonr is responsible for the protracted and litu-rie stroying incarceration of Jifft-fron Davis. Davis is out vicarious head, our represents live—and whst he suffer!', every man of as that was at all true to ountoJvts, also suffers constructively; yea, snd wero we hall such men m those who died for us, we would suf fer more than niiulrmtitrty for our beloved chief, yonder pining and perishing in that haled bastile; the last one of us, in the depth of our syrapathuing anguish, would cry aloud, as did the prophet, *• Oh that my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night lbr the slain and the briny-ttnin of our ped pie J" Humbug ourselves as we may with this sophistry, and with that, President Johnson ia altogether and solely responsible that poor Davis is not tried, or is not roleased from that vilo imprisonment. Wo need not be surpriaod at what any of our conquerors may do, no matter what their pretensions or their promises ; but we are sorely tuurtilied, —humiliated to the dust,—that the once chivalrous South should get on her knees so hiw, pressing these knees and, eper and deeper into the dust and ashes, and worship those that, at the moment, arc imprisoning and Rilling A/m who is but the embodiment, as it wero, ol ourselves. We did hope that when the South lost all, nnd confessed it, that she meant not in that “nff” to include her man liness snd self-respect—that nobleness of character that would bid her suffer nnd die, rather than look on and sec him perish who ffir her, and at her instance, periled his all. CHasOK foil I'kixterm.—A one-half in ferrst of that excellent paper, tl.s Macon Georgia Citizen, is offered for sale. Prefer ence will be given to a competent buninrn man who will bo prepared to take charge of ♦he financial affairs of the concern, and re lievc the Editor from the labor and responsi bility of that position. The “Citizen” has the appearance of b ing in a flourishing condition. Os one thing, any how, we arc assured—there is not a journal that reaches our tabic that pro cuts, in the first place, a neater and more tasteful tbechanieal appearance, nor, in tb-e second place, eotuos laden with chaster, and better, and altogether more appropriate selections and editorials than it does, day alter day, without any sort of flagging or falling off. We would think a fine opening was here presented for an enterprising man to “pitch in." War SutN.X LoOMtMI t.p. Wo appall ' ♦ hat the Lonivsille .hturnul thinks —or d,d think on the ist of Octobei—touching the Ominous portents of the times. A distinguished gentleman, who accompa nied President Johnson through,) it h>s u cent tour, ami mingling fieu'\ niiinm' the crowds in all the . ilies, hss informed us that Re saw and heard very much to excite his grave apprehensions ns to what was before ua. He found the general feeling the part of the Radio,!* fierce, aggr, tn- Kstuons, and turbulent, if not , .He lieves-that War civil war—is mme hearts and expectations of vast multitudes. If has beeu informed, and feels no doubt, lion very many Me already arming in anticipa tion of the conflict, some of them individually and others in organization*. * * * * The signs are direful. Our nationality seems more fearfully threatened than it was at any time dining the late war, the world's greatest wsr. The portents glow and red dbn like baalfires upon all the hills. The country is eeverod with combustible male rials scattered around hv fierce hands, and t4ie hulling abroad of a single firebrand from Washington, or the hoisting of one flash of lightning from the lurid clouds that bang lon over the eapitol, may wrap the land in a cCTitfsgration of civil war. And let the Northern people remember that, if civli war comes, it will rage and madden and work us desolations first in the North, and, if the South choose, bo confined to the North. Mrs. Sturgis Hooper, the rich Boston wid ow, is the happy lady Senator Sumner is to lead to the altar.—A'.r, H-echo b answers “U-altet.” A> wealths’ coortes 111 of Cincinnati lately •Ufoeasedj Lfts left ¥60,000 to charitable in stitutions. “ Shall Sheep and Swine be pot united to :nn at large” is a question to b» decided by an election in lowa.” The London Times states that the census of Ireland revealed the reararknble fket that there werebut two Jews in the entire South west of Ireland. One of tl>ea> lived itr Mun ster, and owe in Connaught. The New York Herald says an expedi tion, consisting of about 2000 men, lias been recently despatehed t> Mexico under the auspices of Santa Anita. A Washington c.r respondent of the Bali wore Gaz.-tte writes as follows : Tile Wbcess of the Radical ticket wi’l prob ably bring a sad closing to the long suffer ings of Mr. Davie. The Radical voice calls ahaiJ for bis blood, and Poßgrcsi would dot be alow, in violation rtf all law and justice and decency, ttf order a trial by military cemmi-ston. There are chars, toe, who would not oppose such a mca-urc. The bit ter feelings of Mr. f- award are well ksrwn. It is he more than any other to whom Mr Davis still owes his incarceration. His pain fully distorted countenance, marked with the gashes made by the knife ol Payne, re-nain US' hanged, lie sees liimsell the effect he produces on strangers, and knows he will b«ar these terrible marks to the grave.— This req iers him exceedingly bitter against all those whom he ean even by lorce of im agiu?tion, gonricct with the assassination. When these are entertained by a leading member of the Johnson Cabinet, *s well us by the whole Radical party, there ia at least some ground for apprehension. lion. W.
