The original is still preserved and can he shown and substantiated, if anybody desires. We are indebted to a distinguished lady of this city for a copy, sent with a request for pub lication I\ e can add nothing in the way of comment on such a document. It speaks for itself: Camp near Camden, 8. C m 1 Feb 2«, 1865 } My Dear Wife: I have no time for par ticulars. We have had a glorious time in rlriar State. "Unrestricted license to burn and plunder was the order of the day. The chivalry have been stript of most of their valuables. Gold wateliea, silver pitcher*, cups, spoon«, forks, etc., cct., are as common in camp as blackberries. The terms of plun der are as follows : The valuables procured are estimated by eomparics. J-.ach compa ny is required to exhibit the results of its operations at any given place—l-5 and first choice falls to the share of the commander in chief and stall, 1-5 to the corps com mander and staff, 1 5 to field officers of regi merit and 25 to tht company. Officers are not allowed to join in these expeditions without disguising themselves as privates. One of our corps commanders borrowed a suit of rough clothes from one of my meu and was successful in this place. He got a large quantity of silver (among other things an old time silver tnlik pitcher) and a very fine gold watch from a Mr. Detfaussure at this place. BeSaussurw is one of the P. Gen. Sherman has silver and gold enough to start a hank. His share in gold watches and chains alone, at Colum bia. was two hundred and seventy-five (275) Hut I said I could.not go into particulars. All the general officers, arid many besides, have vain tides of every description down to embroidered ladies' pocket handkerchiefs (I have my share of them too). I will send this by the first flag of truce to be mailed unless I have an opportu nity of sending it to Hilton Head. Tell Sallie I am saving a pearl brao det and ear rings for her. Rut Lambert got the neck lace and breastpin of the same set. I am frying to trade him out of them. These ♦ere taken from the Misses Jamison, dauglt fers of the President of the South Carolina Secession Convention. We found these on our trip through Georgia.’’ This letter was addressed to “Mrs Thos. J. Myers, Boston, Mass.” .Spooney Butler.—Ben. B itter was ex pented in Evansville the other day to wake a speech in behalf of the Ja -obins. The Courier of that city squibs as follows of the prospective coining : Take “ Time by the Fo eloek." —Silver and gold watches should be buried with care and at once. Our wealthy eiti tens should attend to the interment of their valuables at midnight, and let no one about the premises have the least information as to the locality. As an exhibition of intelligence, moderation, and decency, his speech was incomparably superior to those of Brownlow, Butler, Botts, and Hamilton. The Northern papers in their account of th# progress ol the ‘‘Tar and Turpentine Com mittee,’’ are also unanimously of the opinion that the negro Randolph is a far less dis gusting and depraved brute than his vile white associates. Mr Forsyth, editor of the Mobile Adver tisers, writing for his paprr from New Votk i Says :** The llereld says it is a fixed fact that the North will insist on the congressional p'lrfn of resconslruetion over that of the President.
