tended the Circus on yesterday, and feel that
we can safely say that the various leats were
well performed, some of which we have nev

4*3?“ General Butler said in his speech at
the negro suffrage convention in PliiUdel
pt.ia, “had the nogr‘ ;:ot been armed, 'lie
result would been far different ’’ Os
course, he meant that, the twenty millions
of Northern whites would, but lor the ni l of
the negroes, have been whipped by the seven

Northern whiles tf/uxt he netoenduosly oh

Louisville. Journal.
Instead of “ tophet ” we think B ltler
should havo a go den medal for the declara

in the last five years. It, was the negro
troops that whipped us—indirectly active—
and if we had not been such fools as to re
fuse the aid of the negroes, we should have
whipped the Yankees.— Macon Tdeyrojh
Why Jefferson Davis’ Children are
at a Catholic Convent —A letter w titer
visited Jefferson Davis narrates the fol

■ The coming of the little child into the
inner casemate, arid climbing into his father’s
arms, who had just leaped from the sofa,
gave occasion to Mrs. Davis to make some
remarks about her - children, particularly
those in Canada. Bishop Green (an Epis

but, as Mrs. Davis had ’d»*e str h-rsclf, he
felt bound to sayj as 1 a Bishop of her own
chosen church, he did not thinlf she acted

convent to be taught. Mrs. Davis replied :
“I was in Georgia, and had no money. No
institution of my own church offered to
