B Stoddard <fc Cos., of Charleston, are now offering superior inducements to the trade. From a personal examination of heir stork we feel authorized to recommend them particulrrly. They receive goods by Boston Steamers weekly. See the Card of F. Horsey, Charleston, S.C. Recollect them when you have to order Ilats, Caps, or Straw Goods from that ritv. They are prepared to dispense the best of bargains to their customers. See Abel A. Wright's card. Every bodv knows he is all (W) riylil and able to do vastly more than bis modesty permits him to pro mise. As the wedding Mines are coming on, he is the man to get up “engagefuent rings” for the fall and winter seasons. Geo. W. Williams & Cos., one of the leading Houses of Charleston, are prepared to receive consignment of produce Ac, and to make the most liberal advances This house is well known, reliable, and, hav. ing an immense capital, erfn afford the very lest terms to shippers; see their card. New Fall and Winter GoOds.—See anew Advertisement with th 6 shove head ing, in our columns to day, of that univer sally popular and exceedingly accommo dating firm Messrs. Loewen3lc?n (fc Pfeifer. It will be seen that they have everything in their line that can be called for, —and be sides, have a couple of accomplished clerks, sire and son, to wit, the Messrs. Little, that never weary in showing you their handsome goods, and selling them to you pursuaut to the bargains giving programme of the liberal heads of the establishment. GrifG ■ ami Ala bama Ittilioad We publ sh the proceedings elsewhere of the meetings of stockholders on the 4th iri-t., leudering the company our hearty good wishes in its efforts at quic ken ng time, shortening distances, cheapening travel, and bringing remote commercial and agricultural points into clone connection. Bautin ing, as did the friends of this road, the necessity of suspending the worn of further construo tiou during the war, it should be gratifYing to n! 1 such now to know that the work goes on bravely again, (literal ion* having been re sumed on the Blh instant. So so u as this road should have been completed to Netv nan, ou the AtLnta and West Point Road, a distance bv rail ot thirty three miles, all of which is now graded, soon tc be ready for the iron, it at once becomes an ftnpiu'tani feedef of tho Mubin & Western tt.o ni; as at that point—Yewtiau—it div.dea business with the Atlanta, Augusta and Charleston Loads—shortening dts mice betwoeflf Savar.- <h, Macon and West Point on the Chatta iWchee. The superior location which this line of road oc cupics—being an extension of the most direct communications from one of the largest ship ).'iig ports On the Atlantic coast, in the Southern States, into au inteuor of inex lutrstible wealth in agricultural and mineral prodt-cts—coupled with a vast amount of: undeveloped water power, in i.s fin mediate j vicinity—Cannot fail to' cetairrand, lor its ! early completion, uu anxious inteiest espe- j cia ly 60, when it is remembered that this ! almo-it airline road Tenvices the uis ance between Savannah and Ffeuiphis about one hun'Jfeu miles. —Macon Tchyiaplt Oct 13. Tea.—Mr. M. Jones, of Liberty c u ;ty Georgia, has written for the Cultivator a communication on tie “ Culture of Tea in the South.” The editor of the Cultivator *ajs. - Our correspondent hat favored us with a sample of the tea prepared by him. In appeaiance, fragrance and flavor, it precise ly resembles a fine article of Chinese Black Tea. If our plantations can produce tea as finely flavored as this, with as little trouble as Mr. Jones"states is required in the pro cess, it is the most profitable crop we can grow. In conversation with him, another poiut was elicited, to wit—that when ttea is raised in localities near the' etrfrkt, vflion the [ilants are once established, nearly all the abor comes during the healthy season of the year, and after gathering, the planter can retire and spend most of the summer in a more healthy locality.
