Nrtv York, August 23. —A special
dispatch to the London Telegram
says that nothing official lias been
received from either army since yester
day.
Private advices assert that the Cha
lons’ irmy is moving towards Thion
ville in a despurate effort to effect a
junction with Ba2nino by escaping the
Prince Royal and passing the German
army north of Verdun. McMahon's
only choice was, of two evils, to either
leave the road to Paris open, or, by
holding it, sacrifice Bazai no.
A special to the Courier De Etats
Unis, dated Paris 22, states that prepar
ations for a combat are going on all
along the line.
Paris is virtually in a state of siego.
It is generally conceded that the issue
of the campaign will be decided tinder
our walls.
