LIGHT TOUCHES.
The construction of some Pianos and
Organs is such aa to require considerable
force to produce sound. In those we are
showing the mechanical parts are so nicely
adjusted that they respond to the most
delicate touch. But they can stand the
heavier hand of a player made enthusiastic
by the richness of tone, the volume, the
purity of their notes. And the exteriors
are fitting houses for such music. See
them at

Mr. Hawkes as the superiority of his

ALL ABOUT BUTTS.
■ ' >
Butts Superior Court and Uewiy
News Items-
Editor or the Call: Court ad*
journed on Saturday morning early at
the request of the city council of Jack
son, or account of tbe development of
ooe or two cases of small pox in tbe
Northern and Eastern part of Butts
county.
It was only a precautionary action
on the part of Jsoksou, as there was
no small pox tbsre and nowhere near
there. The council was afraid some
one exposed might be attracted to
Jackson on account of the Court being
in session.
There is no danger of the disease at
Jackson ss that place is determined to
have it controlled in the distant local*
itiea nt which it has developed.
MURDER TRIAL.
Tbe must important case tried on
the criminal side of tbe court was that
of tbe State vs. Vozler Lee, charged
with the offense of murdering Bill
Ridgeway. Our Col. Thurman defend
ed Vuzier very ably, and succeeded in
reducing the crime to voluntary man
slaughter. Tbe Colonel has had many
triumphs iu tbe criminal field of prac
tice, but none greater than ibis, for
even some ofVcziet’a neighbors thought
he was on his way to the gallows.
Judge Beck sent him to the peniten
tiary fur iwelve years. .
One woman was convicted of the
illegal sale of liquors and fined $l5O.
Such fines as these will sjamp out
this nefarious business.
Court'was adjourned to Monday
week when some of the other blind
tigers will be tried. All the blind tiger
people were sick when the court open
ed the other day, and kept tbe doctors
busy swearing. But Judge Beck in
formed tbe Attorneys that ho would
certainly try tbe cases Monday week,
as be was determined to put a st?p to
that business.
THE PROHIBITION ELECTION.
The prohibition election comes off
March 3d. There is absolutely no ex
citement. The people of Butts have
prospered under prohibition and have
□o idea of going back to “heathenism.”
The county will go dry with an in
creased majority.
JACKSON.
This beautiful and enterprising little
oily continues to improve. Mr. Car
tnicael, the Carriage man, is building
a most beautiful house—-one that
would be an ornament even to Peach
tree street in Atlanta. With all bis
advantages as a builder his house will
cost over six thousand dollars. The
Morison bouse has also put up an
annex It is crowded all the time now
and is an honor to Jackson.
POLITICS.
The beet posted men in Butts in
formed me that the Hon. Robert Ber
ner will carry that county. Butts
adjoins Monroe and recognizes the
comity that has always existed among
close neighbors. It is thought that
Col. Berner will carry all the counties
of the Flint circuit, as well as all the
counties of tbe Fifth congressional
district. These counties are all bound
together politically, and for any of
them to go against Berner would react
on them in the future. For example,
if Spalding should go against Berner
if we should ever present a candidate
for the judge’s place or the congress
we could not consistently ask the help
of Monroe county.
We simply mention this byway of
parenthesis, as a political factum that
is going to weigh something on the
“home stretch.”
GRIFFINITE.
We bad a pleasant talk with Mr.
Harold Griffin, the clever son of ware
houseman W. B. Griffin. He has a
fine position with tbe bank at Jackson
as bookkeeper.
CHANGE OF PIKE COURT.
Pike court will convene on the first
Monday io April instead of, as here
tofore, io March. The change was
made by tbe last legislature. It is not
generally known even in Pike
Yours,
W. E H. Searcy.
There is more Catarrh in thia section of
he country than all the other diseases put
together, and until the last few years was
supposed to be incurable. For a great
many years doctors pronounced it a local
disease, and prescribed local remedies, and
by constantly failing to cure with local
treatment, pronounced it incurable.
Science has proven catarrh to be a consti
tutional disease, and therefore requires
constitutional treatment. Hall’s Catarrh
Cure, manufactured by F. J. Cheney &
Co.. Toledo, Ohio, is the only constitu
tional cure on the market. It is taken in
ternally in doses from 10 drops to a tea
apoonfal. It acts directly on tbe blood
and mucous surfaces of the system. They
offer one hundred dollars for any case it
fails to cure. Send for circulars and tes
timonials. Address,
