A leading trade journal has this to tnj with regardjo the textile manu facturing situation : “In New England the situation continues to receive the careful attention of mill owners, and the prediction seems justified that at no distant day there will be an alliance of New England capital with* the South’s capital and natural advantages for the production of all grades of textile goods, which will bring to the South the position in this industry which she should occupy by reason of her labor, climate, legislation and loca tion as regards the supply of iaw ma terial.” The South would welcome any in flux of New England or other Northern capital which might come to her for investment. The field is open, and the opportunities are good. The textile mills now in operation in the South have demonstrated that they can man ufacture their wares at a profit while the mills of New England making similar go ds find it necessary to reduce wfjgea and cut off t.ime. And thia fact is no better known to the people of Ibe Sooth than io those of New England. It is conceded by the latter that the South has a virtual monopoly in the production of the coarser qualities of cotton cloths. Judging from the quotation at the head of this article, howeve ', it appears that the New Englanders are becoming pretty well satisfied that the time is not far distant when the South will no longer be content with nuking only coarse clotba. She is at present maki ing inquiries as to why she cannot make the finer goods, and is finding the facts to be favorable to her. About the only reason why the South is not now making the finer goods is that she has not the mills. These, will come later. It may be that they will come through "an alliance of New England capital with Southern capital and resources,” but they will come at all events. The South is accumulating money of her own (or investment, and is investing it with good judgment. The greater number of Southern enw terprises are the outcome of the enter prise and investment of her own peo ple Much Northern, money has come into the South, of course, but the bulk of improvements and enterprises have been paid for with Southern money. While, therefore, the South would gladly welcome the capital of New England in the development of her manufacturing possibilities, she is not dependent upon outside aid. She has riches to offer, but she is not begging people to take them. —Savannah News. MOZLETSLEMON ELIXIR. A PLEASANT LEMON DRINK. Dr. H.
