The business portion ol our city was greatly excited last night at 7:30 o’clock over the alarm of fire, which was caused by some papers io alum ber room between the law offices ol Cols. T. E Patterson and W. D. Car bart catching fire. The fire was dis covered before it bad made much headway, and was extinguished alter doing but little damage. It is thought to have been the work of mice and matebee. Olympic’s Last Attraction. One of the best attractions of the season will come lo the Olympic Theatre tomorrow night. This ie Ed win A. Davis and bis excellent com pany, presenting the big farce comedy “His Excellency.” This company filled the boaids at the Lyceum Theatre in Atlanta lust week and received some flattering press notices. The people of Griffin should show their appreciation by giving there people a crowded house. ‘•His Excellency” is lull of spark ling specialties and pretty girls, which will no doubt please a Griffin au dience. Secure your tickets at usual place tomorrow early and sen one of the strongest shows that has been in Griffin in many months. Excellent music will be heard at this attraction. Teachers’ Meeting. - A number of tile teachers of Spald ing county met yesterday morning at 10 o’clock at the Neel Inalitue for the purpose of discussing text books and other matters of interest to the schools. Prof. Chas. M. Neel was called to the chair, and Prof. Matthews, of Ze tells, was made secretary. It was agreed that it would be best Xo hold the Teachers’ Institute in Griffin during the month of June. Ii was the opinion ol the teachers present that a permanent organization of the teachers of Spalding county should be formed, meeting monthly to discuss educational matters, and the next meeting will beheld in May—the particular day to be named later. If the teachers of the county will take hold of the work earnestly, in a very short time Spalding county will stand in the front rank in educational lines. At the Y. M. 0. A The meeting at the Young Men’s Christian Association at 3 :30 this af ternoon will be of unusual interest. Dr. Theron H. Rice, pastor of the Central Presbyterian church of Atlan ta, and late moderator of the Presby tery which has just closed its session, will give the address, while vocal and instrumental quartettes will assist in the moeic. A cordial invitation is txtended to all men and women. Brindle. • Lemons for Insomnia. From the Ashville Chronicle. The Rev. T. S. Brown, the pastor pf the Lutheran church of this city, is running opposition to Bishop Lyman on insomnia curve. Mr. Brown yesterday told a Chron icle reporter that lemon juice, diluted and taken just before retiring, will almost cer tainly produce sound and refreshingsleep. Mr. Brown also said that he had learned from an eminent physician that if diluted lemon juice were drunk after a heavy doee of quinine, it would prevent latter’s caus ing buzzing in the head.
