Action.
The country is tired of talk; it
wants action.
It is all very well to crowd ibe Con
gressional Record with speeches. Un
der some conditions that might be al
lowab'e. But now, when the Ameri
can people are getting ready for a
great national movement, that sort of
thing is obnoxious. There are only
two things that are required of con
gress, and they are a formal declara
tion of war against Spain and the apa
propriation of money to carry out the
determination of the nation, and the
military operations incidental to it.
These things are not matters for dis
cussion. They do not involve any
partisan advantage, and the man wbo
tries to turn to partisan advantage the
crisis in which the country is involved
will be treated as a traitor. We are al)
one in demanding vengeance for the
massacre of the Maine! We are all
one io insisting that, because of that
atrocity, Spain shall be evicted from
the western hemisphere.
The house of representatives has
spoken. We vastly prefer the resolu
tions recommended by the senate com
□jittee on foreign relatione, but if the
precise language of the declaration con
gress has determined to make cannot
be agreed upon in conference today,
then, in God’s name, let the senate in
dorse the house’s action and o-der tbe
president to go to work
No more procrastination ; no more
hesitation; no more delay. Spain
must not stand upon the order of go
ing, but go at once.—Washington
Times.

from an eminent physician that if diluted
