This was continued throughout the day although many companies have not as yet taken the last oath of duty. The Fifth . Regiment Band now gives two concerts each day, ons in the morning and one in the evening . Besides there are two guard mounts daily and the band is furnishing ex cellent music on all occasions. Yesterday afternoon when Capt Geo. W. Drummond of the Republi can Blues commanded his company to fall in for mustering six men re fused to obey the command end (ho seventh dropped from the line, there by deserting the company and falsi fying all former oaths. These men were pronounced deserters and escor ted by a detailed squad tjthe borders of the camp Two of them were among the num ber who were arrested by our police yesterday morning Capt. Drummond feared a return of these men with evil intentions and at once detailed n squad to patrol the company's street during the night. The stables on the south of the grounds have been converted into comfortable quarters and are now oc cupied by several companies. A large per cent of the men now in camp are recruits who know nothing of military duty. are being drilled hard and will soon be prepared so do themselves justice io dress pa fade. That was tie fate of the above-men tioned boys yesterday morning, and they came out of (he fracus—if indeed they are out—with all evidences of having gotten more than they figured on. The party, which was composed of about ten men, became so unruly that Chief Ison called on Officers Phelps and Gordon to accompany him out Solomon street to where they had congregated and arrest them. The boys were not locked up in the city prison, but were detained at Po lice headquarters until Col. Brown could send a detachment from camps for them It was ons o’clock when the rquas of 12 armed soldiers under the com mand of Capt. The Macon Telegraph of yesterday morning contained the following ac count of a marriage io that city which will interest ths many Griffin friends of the contracting parties: Capt Sam Huntei,of the Macon Vol unteers, and Miss KiUie Searcy were united in marriage at the residence of Mrs. Julia Lsmar, sister of the bride, in Vineville at 8:30 o’clock last night. Rev. R R. While, pastor of the First Presbyterian church performed the ceremony. The announcement of the marriage will be read with surprise by the large number of friends of the popular couple. Capt. Hunter will leave sot Griffin at 8:30 o’clock this morning to take charge of his company. The marriage was a very quiet affair, only the relatives of the bride and groom and two ur three very intimate friends were prseeut. Mr. Sidney Wiley was best mao. Tbs marriage of Capt. Hunter and Mies Searcy had been set for the com ing fall, but when Capt. Hunter re ceived orders Monday to go to the front with hie company he immediate ly corresponded with Miss Seaicy, whose home is at Searcy’s in Monroe county, and the- arrangements for an immediate marriage were Inade. Capt. Hunter was compelled to remain in Ma con to enlist men in bis company and so it was arranged for Miss Searcy to come here. She arrived yesterday morning at 11 o’clock and immediate ly went to her sister’s home in Vine ville. As there was no time for prepa ration for the marriage it was decided to Ist it be very private and no invita tions were issued. There is not a more popular young man in Macon than Capt. Hunter.
