Miss Nall has one of the handsomest homes in the city and on Thursday it presented a gen eral warlike, patriotic appearance. Flags wore used profusely and the walls were gracefully draped with the red, white, pud blue bunting. In the decorations of the handsomely appoint ed dining room this same color scheme was carried out. The table, over which hung large silken flags, was exquisitely lovely. Tbe centrepiece was a beautiful floral flag made of "While and red sweetpeas and blue vio late, and at the four corners of the table were great bunches of tbe same dainty, sweet flowers tied with ribbons in tbe national colors. There is only one way to cure deafness, and that is by constitutional remedies. Deafness is caused by an inflamed condition of the mucous lining ot the Eustachian Tube. When this tube is inflamed you have a rumbling sound or imperfect hearing, and when it is entirely closed, Deafness Is the result, and unless the inflamation can be taken out and this tube restored to its normal condition, hearing will be de stroyed forever; nine cases out of ten are caused by Catarrh, which is nothing but an inflamed condition of the mucous sur fbees. Three American Vessels and Several Thousand Spaniards in Battle. An other Victory for Uncle Sant. Washington, May 14—A terrific Outlie was fought between the United States cruiser Marblehead, the gun boat Naah*iHe and the auxiliary cruis er Windom and several thousand Spanish troops in the harbor of Cien fuegos Wednesday morning. Tbs battle resulted io tbe killing of au American, tbe wounding of several more, three of whom will die, and tbe killing of 400 Spaniards. Tbe engagement was started by the Spaniards, who fired upon the fleet while it was endeayoripg to cut tbe cable connecting Havana with San tiago de Cuba. Tbe fire was instant ly returned by a shower of shells from the three American ships, which car ried death to hundreds cf the Span iards on sbore and fired the city for blocks around the land forte. It was one of the most terrific bat tles of tbe war, and again evinced the superiority of our equipments and tbe daring bravery of our officers and men. Tbe news of the cutting of the ca ble at Cienfuegoe has caused great satisfaction at the navy department, because this was ordered some days ago, and it was hoped it had been done before tbe Spanish fleet left Martinique. This cuts off Havana from tbe world and leaves Blanco without means of communication vrlth Madrid or bearing from the out side. ’ It was thought at first that the ca ble should have been cut at Santiago de Cuba, but Ibis being a British ca ble, it was found that the cutting of cables at Cientuegoa would serve just as well. ; The feat accomplished on Thursday is considered one of the biggest ot tbe War yet. - TbffrTtnr from Havana to Cienfuegos, but no cable from Havana. There is no in land telegraph beyond Cienfuegos, for tbe Cubans have cut all the wires, and as the only cable to the outside world (except at Santiago de Cuba) ran from Cienfuegos, Cuba is now cut off, for the rest of Cuba has no land telegraph ic or cable communication with San tiago.
