Deafness Cannot ba Cured
by local applications as they cannot reach
the diseased portion of the ear. There is
only one way to cure deafness, and that is
by Constitutional remedies. Deafness is
caused by aa inflamed . condition of the
mucous fining oi the Eustachian .Tube.
When this tube is inflamed you have a
rumbling sound or imperfect hearing, and
when it is entirely closed, Deafhess is the
result, and unless the inflamation can be
taken out and this tube restored to its
normal condition, hearing will be de
stroyed forever; nine cases out of ten are
caused by Catarrh, which is nothing but
an inflamed condition of the mucous sur
faces. '
We will give One Hundred Dollars for

BKFHN. &EOR&IA. SUNDAY MORNINH. MAY 2V. 1898.
A MERRY PARTY
i :
Camp Morthen Enlivened Yeeterdny
By a Party of Charminn Women-
Yesterday was a moat pleasant day
in camps for many, most esp icrally the
Albany eothpanies. ®
It had been predicted for several
days that quite a large crowd from Al
bany would come up Saturday and
give the boys of Captains Scott and
O'Brien a picnic
. And the men were not disappointed
for when tbe train arrived yesterday a
jolly crowd of ladies and gentlemen,
about Ibirty-five strung, were soon >O
- carried to tbe camp ground,
their well filled baskets. The zmornt
ing was only too quickly passed by
the merry party who, with their soldier
friends, enlivened tbe ent)\e camp
grounds, tbe soldiers quarters, and the
men on duty.
About 1 o’clock the elaborate spread
jwaa-prepared in the mess hall of tbe
company when all were invited down
to feast. It was a meet elaborate and
abundant spread, one which all did
full justice to. Everything templing
was served in the most gracious man
ner by the noble ladies who claimed
they bad come to give their soldier
boyj one more feast from home.
It is useless to say this was appre
ciated and the thoughts that the ladies
not only prepared the lunch, but came
all the distance to Griffin-tA bring it
makes the boys feel doubly proud' of
tbe noble ladies of tbe Artesian city.
Most of this party will remain over ‘
until this afternoon, while others re
turned home yesterday.
Again the men throughout the camp
were made glad, yesterday by the an
nouncement that the uniforms were
arriving and perhaps all would be giv
en new clothing by noon today. The
first lot of tbe uniforms arrived early
yesterday morning and tbe others were
expected last night.
Col. J. H. Estill, of the Savannah
M >rning News, last week complimen
ted the Fust Regiment with eleven
hundred copies of “Star Spangfed Ban
ner.” These were distributed through*
out tbe camp and it is the intention
of Col. Lawton to have (he men learn
and sing this beautiful song in a body.
This will be quite a treat and if noti
fied in time our citizens will do doubt
„urc out in large numbers to bear tbe
song by a regiment of men.
Another Savannabian who has tbe
best wishes of all in camps is Mr, T. J.
Davis, who complimented tbe regi
ment with enough straw to supply ev
ery tent in camp. This was quite a
large donation, and while many had
all tbe straw wished for,it was received
with thanks throughout ‘the entire
regiment.
Col. Lawton instructed tbe issuing
of all guns on hand ta tbe different
companies vesterday. Each company
was detailed 40 guns. It ie not known
when the other guns will bb furnished
by tbe government, but all would like
to see them forthcoming.
Col. Lawton has issued an order for
the detailing of one company each
day to serve guard. This order will
take effect Monday and is heartily ap
' proved throughout the camp.
Twenty-five men have beeu selected
for tbe band which ie soon to make its
appearance on the field.
Lieut. W. E. Sanders went down to
Forsyth Friday where he secured a set
of band instruments to be used in
camp until others can be obtained
from tbe government.

ing, having left' the American fleet

the harbor. It is thought tbs Harvard
has important-messages for the naval
authorities. •
Admiral Sampson ie quoted as say
ing that be ie perfectly satisfied that
Cevera ia io the harbor of Santiago de
Cuba.
There is so little doubt about this
that the naval campaign is proceeding
upon tbe assumption that Admiral
Cervera is incapable of doing any
harm. VVjthin a few days the exact
conditions at Santiago de Cuba will
be known without a shadow of doubt.
Il ie officially announced in Madrid
that the Spanish reserve squadron,
commanded by A Imiral Camara, has
left Cadiz. 'The cquadron iacomposed
of ten or twelve vessels, and after
manoeuverjng for several days in tbe
sea, will sail for tbe Philippines,
Cuba or the United States, as the gov
ernment may judge moat opportune.
