Bartlett.... 600 After declaring tbe above to be tho result of tbe primary election, the committee then proceeded to elect delegatee to represent Bpaiding coon ty in tbe convention which meets in Atlanta to nominate governor and ' state house officers. • . Dr. N. B Drewry and B. R. Blakely were elected as delegates, and Judge W. C. Beeks and W. J. Bridges alter nates. Douglas Glenaer and J. D. Touch stone were elected delegates to tbo congressional convention which meets in this city on June 17ih, with P. 8. Parmelee and Dr. T. E. Drewry as alternates. It was unanimously resolved to have a voting precinct eetablisbed at Exper iment station on the 23rd of this month when tho primary will be held for nominating county officers. It was decided that every candidate must pay hie pro rata share of tbe ex penses incurred in holding All* pri mary on the 23rd, ancfall votes cast for any candidate wbo refused to do so, will not be counted. A commit tee was appointed to assees the amount the various candidates would be re quired to pay. This committee consisted us Cols. W. D. Oarbart and L. Cleveland, wbo made the following assessments, tbe money to be paid Col Carbart by tbe 15th inst: Clerk, $5.50; tax receiver, $3.00; tax collector, $5.50; sheriff, $300; treasurer,s6DO; representative, $2,50; county commissioner, $2 50; coroner, $100; surveyor, SI,OO And as Spalding went, so did tbe state, with tho single exception of J. 8. Turner, tbe candidate for prison commissioner. His opponent, Hon. J. j. W. Renfroe, received a majority of 41 in this county, as tbo Call predicted some time since be would do. Tbe large majority Spalding county gave Hon. O. B. Stevens for commis sioner of agriculture is largely due to the indefatigable labors of Col. W. D. CoL Candler is to Command New Reg imwt, Which Will .Be Made Up Mostly of Organised Militia. Georgia will furnish 3,000 troops for the Spanish wsr in addition to the two regiments already in the field. Within a few weak* this state will have more than 5,000 of her brave sone in camp at the front. A new regiment of Georgia volun teers was yesterday authorized by tbe war department. This means that Georgia will be c tiled upon to send as a complete organisation more than I, men, with a colonel, lieutenant colonel, two mi jots and all field offi cers. Tbe 3000 additional troops which Georgia will raise at once will com price the newly, authorized regiment of state voiueleers, Col. Ray’s regi ment of immuoes and tho force of 764 men required to recruit the two Geor gia. regiments already io the field to a war footing of 105 men to each com pany. Tbe new regiment will have over 1.300 men and Col Ray’s regi ment of inamunea will have Qre * same number. Witb tbo 764 recruits called for from Georgia, tbe number of troops to bo raised will be just 3,375 Tbe news of the new volunteer regi ment from Georgia come from Wash ing ton yesterday in telegrams to in terested parties io this city. The tele grams stated that tbe war department bad acceded to Governor Atkinson’s request and bad authorised this stale to send a Complete regiment . . colonel Candles to the fmost. Colonel John S. Candler will com mand tbe regiment and it is under stood that be will begin the organiza tion of tbo command as soon as Gov ernor Atkinson makes tbo necessary appointment.—. These guns of course are not the full equip ment of a light battery, yet they will ascot of them, ere recruits and ibow nothing of the duties of an artillery man. It is desired by tbo batteries in camp that they receive full equipment at an early date thereby enabling them to thoroughly learn tbe dutioo before them. They spend their time now in daily marcbea through tbo country and' in tbe providing for their comfort iu camp. When the First rogimsnt was mus tered in the service of tbe volunteer army of the United States, Col. Law ton expressed a deairo to bavo every man vaccinated aa early as possible. The surgeon ordered tbe vaccine points which arrived yesterday and Col. Law ton at once issued tbe following order as a precaution in the future: Headquarters First Regiment Georgia Infantry, U S. V. Camp Nokthen, Gbiffin, Ga, June 7,1898. —General Order No. 14: Com mencing today, this entire regiment will present itself, as herein stated, to tbe surgeon at tbe hospital for vacci nation. Companies of the First battalion will prevent themselves, respectively F, I, M and K, at 1,2, 3 and 4p. m ; commencing at tbe same beer on Wednesday, tbe Second battalion will present themselves seco rd! ng to streets. Before reportiog to hospital, every man must thoroughly bathe bis left arm, and commanding officers are ex pected to give this their personal at tention and see that it is thoroughly done. Each company must bs accompa nied by one commissioned officer, wbo will come prepared to keep a record of every man vaccinated. By Order of Col. Lawton. Al tbe appointed time the companies were marcbed in a body to the hospi tal, where every man’s arm waa exam ined and all needing it was vaccinated Col. Lax ten and Lieut. Col. Brooks wore the first to rsceivs tbo virus points. On Monday night Capt. Timothy O’Brien, formerly of tbo Waycross Rifles, was presented by bis old com pany and tbe citizens of Waycross, with a beautiful and expensive swoid, as a token of their respect* to their former citizen. This is one of tbe most beautiful swords we have ever seeo and Capt. O’Brien has just cause for being proud. There was some exilement through out tbe camp yesterday morning,when a very loud report was board from tbo vicinity of tbe commanding officers’ quarters.
