Has the Secret Been Found!
If Dr. J. B. Murphy, of Chicago,has
actually discovered (belong soughtcure
for consumption, be is entitled to the
lasting gratitude of the human race;
but likely enough the formula which
this wideawake physician supposes to
contain the golden secret will share
the fate of its short-lived and ill-starnsd
predecessors.
At the recent annual gathering of
the American Medical Association Dr.
Morphy, who bad evidently been
studying for years on his formula, an*
nouoced that be could cure the dread
disease by means of nitrogen intro
duced into the lungs. So plausibly
did he discuss the matter that, accord
ing to the ioformation which lias
come to hand, be fairly set the gray
haired practitioners who listened to
him wild with enthusiasm. Dr. Mur
phy proceeds upon the notion that
while the mho places in the lunes
tend gradually to heal, they are «r
--reeted io this process by the constant
exercise to which they are put in Ibo
act of respiration.
Io order to give the lunge rest, he
proposes to insert therein by means of
hyperdermic noodles supplies of nitro
gen, which, bo contends, will give
them the desired rest sod promote the
building up of tissue.
Dr. Morphy states tbit he has tried
bis experiment oocenesfolly in several
cases, and that ba is exceedingly anx
ious to try it upon the 230 victims of
consumption now confined in tbs Cook
county hospital.
There is no disease more deadly in
ite ravages or more universal in its
area of operation than is consumption,
and for this reason it u earnestly to be
hoped that Dr. Murphy has succeeded
in finding the boon for which human
ity has so long prayed. One special
advantage which Dr. Murphy’s alleged
cure possesses is that of cheapness;
and if it proves to be effective, it will
not be beyond the reach of the hum
blest sufferer.
That Dr. Murphy may succeed in
proving the efficacy of bis formula is
the devout hope of afflicted millions in
both h« mispheres—Atlanta Constitu
tion.
