Despite the extremely disagreeable weather of the past week the members of tbe social world have managed to spend tbe time very pleasantly, and tbe several entertain men to have been small, yet quite pretty and enjoyable. Tbe first affair of the week was Miao Nall’s tally bo ride on Tuesday after* noon, given ao a compliment io her guests, Miss Walker, of Monroe, Mine Ruan, of Maoon, and Mias King and Miao Jones, of Greensboro. The mer ry party started at 5 o’clock, and after a delightful ride to Camp Nerthen, returned to the lovely hrnns es Miss Nall on-South Hill street, where a charming al fresco tea was served. Beautiful Persian ruga and the moot ■ comfortable of ehairs had. been placed on tbo lawn s and under the shade of tbe magpificent forest trees at tbe Nall home several hours were spent very delightfully. Miss Nall, ono of x *ur most attractive and interesting girls, than whom there is no more charming a hostess, was at her best on this occasion, and tbo afternoon was one of genuine pleasure. Those present were: Min Walker, of Monroe, Miss King, of Greensboro, Min Ruan, of Macon, Min Reid, Min Mills, Miss Terry, Miss EtßelWatt, Min Opal Smith, Mln Willingham, of Eastman, Miss Horne and Min Bessie Clark Brawner. * • ♦ Mies Gussie Flemieter left Friday morning for Oulumbus, where lor ton days she will bo tbe guest of Miss Fraser, who is entertaining a large bouse party. Ou her return home,. Min FlemisMk. will bo aoopnpanied by Miss Martha Hunt, of Maoon. ♦♦ * - The Dorcas Society held a business mooting, at tbe homo of Mrs. Thomae Mills ora Monday afternoon last. The society will be entertained tomorrow afternoon by Mrs. P. A. Christian .*£, tbe residence of Mr. John L. Boid on Poplar street. e * « Mrs. John H. Walker entertained delightfully at hearts on Wednesday evening last in honor of Miao Nall’s guests. Mrs. Walker is a beautiful young woman of tbe brunette type of loveliness, and entertains with charm ing ease and grace. On Wednesday evening she worse handsome decollete gown of pink mousaelaiue de soie over pink taffetas, which was beautiful, and exceedingly becoming, and carried an armful of La France roses. Mrs. Wal ker’s home is one of tbe prettiest and most attractive in the city and on this occasion was artistically decorated with handsome palms and ferns and quantities of out flowers. After a spirited game of hearts, elegant re freshments were served on tbo card tables. And the prise—such a prize too—a “real, live, soldier boy,” was won by Miss Walker—a fortunate winner of a prise soldier boy, who feels himself in far safer hands than those into which, Until Wednesday evening, be feared himself destined to fall. • * * The Boynton Chapter of the Daugh* tore of tbo Confederacy held an inter esting meeting at the Y. M. 0. A. building last Thursday afternoon. Mrs. James 8. Boynton, the presi dent, Mrs. Milton J. Daniel,'Mrs. Rob ert H. Taylor, and Miso Raid were se lected to represent this chapter at tho reunion of the Confederate Veterans to be held in Atlanta this week. Quite a number from ihis city, besides the del egates. will attend the reception to be given at the Kimball House Wednes day evening. Miso Annie Forrest Goodrich, of Tenn , will arrive in the city Tuesday, and for several days will be the guest of Miss Mattie Terry on Booth Hill street. ■ .. * * * Miss Annie May Leverett is enter taining a hftge house party at her home near Warm Springs. Among Miss Leverett’s guests are Miso Lucy Beck, Miss lues Hammond, Mr. Nat Terry, Mr. Ray Beck and Mr. Will Slaton, of GriSo. Mr. Malcolm McLean and family are now at their summer home, Cherry Hill, which io beautifully situated in ono of Griffin’s prettiest suburbs. This news will be received with much pleasure by tbe numberless friends of this very delightful family Miss Annie McLean, one of tbe moot ebarming debutantes of which Savannah could boast this past winter, arrived io the city yesterday. Mise McLeaa has been enjoying a pleasant stay with friends in Lexing ton, Ky , and Richmond, Va , wheie she was very popular and bad much delightful attention. She is a blight acquisition to Griffin society ’• • • e Mrs. George L Cope, whose many friends are always so delighted to wel come her to Griffin, io now the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Thomas Mills, oa College street. • * ♦ Tbe Griffin Relief Association met iu the Y M. C. A. parlors Tuesday morning and unanimbnsly voted to accept the invitation which Mrs. Peak tendered to become a branch of tbe AmeriCaq and Navy Association. Miss Sara Willingham, of Eastman, who fur several weeks has- been the guest of Mrs. Pritchard and Mrs. Brooks, returned to her homo yester day. Miss Willingham is a very charming young woman and made scores of friends during her stay. •• • • Mrs. Douglas Boyd has as her guest Miss Mamie Hatcher of Macon. Miss Hatcher is a. lovely girl and is receiv ing much social attention. * • e Owing to the serious illness in tbe family, the meeting of the Young Matrons’ Olub with Mrs. Whitely Kinoaid is postponed indefinitely. • • • Mrs. R. J. Redding was the charm ing hostess at a pretty affair on Wednesday afternoon in honor of the Mystic Circle. Despite the rain which fell Incessantly there was quite a large attendance. Mrs. Redding’s homo is lovely, and tbe brightnees and happi ness within doors contrasted prettily with the gloom and dreariness of tbe outside world. After a moat interest ing discussion of George Elliott and hb works, delicious refreshments were served by Miso Leila Redding and Miss Nell Collier, assisted by Mas ter Clayton King and Master Robert Redding. The guests of hjnor were Mrs. Will King and Mrs. Gus Redding, of Atlanta, Mlm Collier and Miss Nell Collier. • e • Miss Annie Askew and Miss Fannio Lou Hackney are tho much admired guests of Mrs. John Childs. a * * Miss Johnson end Miss Maude John son have returned from a charming visit to friends in Atlanta. They now have as their guest thoir brother, Mr. Paul Johnson, of Savannah. • • ♦ Master Jack Brooks was tbe happy host at a delightful affair on Thursday afternoon. Merry games were enjoyed for several hoars, after which elegant refresh men ts were served on tho lawn. Almost thirty guest wore present. • • • Tbe Social Circle meets Wednesday afternoon at tho home of Mrs. Alex Murray, on Poplar street. • ♦ a Miss King and Miss Joneß,of Greens boro, who have been attending Miss Nall’s house party, returned home Thursday. Mise Walker and Miss Ruan, also Miss Nall’s guests, will ro 'main in the city several days longer— Miss Walker ao the guest of Mrs. J. H. Walker, and Miss Ruan, as tbe guest of Miss Nall. Miss Hire Bailey, who has for some time been tho guest nf Mrs Aaron Jaoon Burr returned homo Friday. Mias Bailey is a charmingyoung girl and was very much admired during her stay in Griffin. * * * Miss Hattie Head will shortly give a coterie of friends a bouse party at tbe country residence of her mother, Mrs L. Spalding County to Be Represented at tbo Great Reunion- Spalding County Camp United Con federate Veterans, No. 61V, held an enthusiastic meeting yesterday morn ing in the city ball, which was largely attended. The meeting was called to order by Commander W. R. Hanleiter, when the minutes ol the last meeting were read and confirmed. B. N Barrow, who was appointed as a special committee to arrange for tbe aleeping apartments for tbe members of tho camp who would attend tbe grand reunion in Atlanta next week, made bis report. He said hs had beea offered comfortable quarters in three different buildings in the exposition grounds, where the reunion exercises will be held. He was authorised to secure the quarters which ho thought most desirable. Tbe committee on badges reported that they had ISO badges printed at a cost of |3, and a draft was ordered drawer ou tbe trees er er to pay for tho same. After some discussion as to whether they would go to Atlanta over the Central or Southern, tbe camp finally decided to go over tbe fdfmer road,and will .leave Griffin next Wednesday morning at 6:15 o’clock The Central will furnish them with tWo extra coaches, which will accommodate tbo veterans without over-crowding. After furnishing each member with a badge to be worn at the reunion, the meeting adjourned. JOHN M INTOBH KELL CAMP- Halted Sons of Confederate Vetoraa* Organise Yesterday. A camp of United Sons of Confed* erate Veterans was organized in this city yesterday, with about 35 charter members. The organization was per* footed by the election of the following officers: ... D. J. Bailey, Jr., commandant. J. W. Mangham, first lieutenant commander. W. H. Baker, second lieutenant commander. M. J. Daniel, Jr., adjutant. * T. E. Drewry, surgeon. H. B. Mays, chaplain. G, J. Barrow, quartermaster. E. M. Flynt, color sergeant. L. Patterson, treasurer. Jas. D. Boyd, Jr, historian. Mr. R H. Drake, in a ringing speech, suggested that the oamp be named the John Mclntosh Kell Camp, which met tbe hearty approval of all present and it was so named by a unanimous vote. After deciding to attend tbo reunion of Confederate veterans in Atlanta this week, in a body, tbe meeting ad journed subject to call from the com mandant. The sens of all Confederate veterans of this county are invited to join the camp, and by cMliog on Adjutant Daniel, at tbe Savings bank, may have thoir names enrolled as members. Ladies-in Charge. Carlisle & Ward and tbe Reeves Pharmacy Co. have turned ever their soda founts to tho ladies of tbe Metho dist church tomorrow, and each fount will be in charge of a bevy of Griffin’s most beautiful young ladies. s. The Indie* will be in control of these popular resorts from 8 in tbe morning until 10 p. and the proceeds will go to the purchase of a carpet for the church. I am now authorised by my government to capitulate. I have tbe honor to so apprise you and request that you designate hour and place where my representatives shall appear to compare with those of your excel lency to effect the articles of capitula tion on tbe basis of what has been agreed upon te thia date. General Corbin said : ’’There should be no mistake. Santiago has surren dered and the troops do not retain their arms We agreed to convey them to Spain and not to enter the city until the troops embark.
