It is not known if tbe populists or republicans will put out a candidate against hifa. But this does pot matter, for Mr. Barllatt i* stronger than ever in tbe Sixth district, and will be re elected by a large majority. Miles and Davis Tbe Confederate veterans have •lever had very much affection for Gen. Nelson A. Mile*, say* the Colum bus Enquirer. Io fact they have long cherished a grievance against him. In May, 1865, by order of Miles, fetters were placed upon the feet of Hon. Jefferson Davto, president of tbe Southern Confederacy. This indigni ty was oot demanded by circumetan* cea, and it wa* apparently done for tbe sole purpose of humiliating Mr. Davis and bis friend*—the people of the South. Gen. Mile* loog since recog nised bi* mistake, aa be has endeav ored to make It appear that he acted under compulsory order* from the war department. Mile* has been so poaitive io bi* denial* that the ques tion has remained an open one, but it to uow settled beyond doubt, by tbe publication of th* official order under which Mile* acted. This order is prin ted in facsimile in the current number of McClure’* magaaine, in a aerie* of article* being published in that m*ga<> sine, over th* signaler* of Charles A. Dana, th* aseistant secretary of war. Here i* tbe order: “Fortram Monroe, May 22, 1865. Clary, Jr., whenever be may think it advisable in order to render their im prisonment more secure. "By order of the secretary of war. “C. A. Dana, Asst.
