When normal conditions have been
restored as the result of a settlement
of peace an effort will be made to in
orease the standing army to 100,000
instead ol 60,000 men, as provided in
the Hull bill. Such an army will
doubtless be needed for some time to
come, and io view of the extended in

probably not be a bad idea to maintain
such a force of well trained men.
Though we would have comparatively
no difficulty in getting a large volun

have a well trained force ol fair pro

That the south will gain much in a
commercial way by the expansion of
our territory ao the result ol tbo war is
admitted by all well informed newspa

must come to the southern states with
the acquisition of Cuba, Porto Rico
and ports in the far east. The new
markets for cotton alone, some ao
ftiorities declare, will be worth to thio
country incalculably more than tbo
cost of the war, and their value to the
south will be further enhanced by the
construction of the Nicaragua canal
and the sanitary removal of fever peats

The Best Company is the Compaliy
that does the Most Good.
THE
mil LIFE IHSOIIICE co.
or NEW YORK.
IS THE OLDEST IN THE UNITED STATES AND
THE LARGEST IN THE WORLD.
Since organization to the present time, it has paid and now holds on
policies not yet due the enormous sum of |>716,000,000.
Its dividend record is unsurpassed by any other company m the world.
It protects your dividends in case of death and provides for your old age.
See that your policy has this clause inserted in it.
As compound results are the source of life of all the old line companies,
what ia best for the company should be best for the insured. And for best
results fake a policy in the grand old MUTUAL LIFE.
Fathers see to it that the daughter, the pride of your heart, when as
sailed by the vicissitudes of life and touched by the cruel hand of_fate, shall
be provided with a guaranteed income for hie. The MU fUAL LIFJS, the
strongest financial institution known on the globe—twice as large as the
Bank of England—writes that guarantee.
And to the patriotic soldier who feels called upon to avenge the wrongs
to his country, we say don’t forget the loved ones at home—the Mutual Life is
prepared to take care of all. And for the benefit of those who have a policy
in inis grand old company we give the following extract from a letter of the
president, Richard A. McCurdy:
“I wish you to assure every policy-holder in this Company
that his rights will be fully protected under all circumstances
and tha no one need hesitate to respond to the call of patriot
ism or duty through fear of the forfeiture of his policy.
RICHARD A. MoOURDY, President.
