Purity of the Ballot. Papers in a number of cities in Georgia are making favorable comt ments on the action of Griffin in de ciding to nominate candidates for mu nicipal offices by white primary. Thia is the only plan that will secure fair elections in southern cities, where there is a large colored vote that is purchasable. Columbus has had sufficient expert ence in the past to cause her to follow Griffin's example. A paragraph yes terday morning in our-Jocal columns shows that three citizens of Muscogee had paid 1140 each after conviction of vote baying in the city court. No one believes that these throe parties are < the only ones who have bought votes in recent elections, but the result of their conviction and fine will go a < long ways toward creaking up the j practice of buying white votes that are , purchasable, in the event the negro vote is eliminated,by adopting the plan of a white primary for the nomination of candidates. The practice of buying and selling votes was carried on so long in Colum bus and Muscogee county that a groat many people got to where they did not consider it anything more than legiti mate, and at times little or no effort at | concealment was made. Tbo convictions in the city court will no doubt have a good influence in 1 tbo future, but the adoption of the j white primary will probably do more , than anything else toward purifying 1 o«r elections.—■Colombas Enquirer. 1—t 1 -—I U-!L.!M CA.MTORXA, Brastte j Educate Year Heereta With Ca.-oarate.
