The popularity enjoyed by Ambas

With grace and ease. The key was
engraved with the American and
British flage and the arms of tbe set

this she was accorded the honor of
dancing in tbe royal quadrille, at

This is an honor seldom granted to
such a young unmarried woman.
Tbe life of Lieut. Tiffany wae not
more precious to the country than
that of any other brave and stainless

attracts attention to the terrible fact
that a soldier whom tbe enemy’s bul

country's failure to supply him fit food
and nursing when battle is done.
Many more have died similar deaths,
others are yet dying day by day.

Some curiosities of Chicago’s popu
lation are shown in the recently com
pleted school census, particularly as to
the proportion of foreign born. Ono
block, for instance, in tbe Sixteenth,
ward, has only seven American-born
resident* out of a total of 2,727, the
majority being Poles, with a sprink
ling of several other nationalities.
Another block near by ban a total pop
ulation of of 231, only about one-sixth
of whom aro natives, Germans predom
inating here But tbe record for alien
residents belongs to two other neigh
boring blocks, with a total population
of 2,584, of whom 2, 583 are Poles, the
other man being a Chinaman. The
total population of this city is estia
mated to be 1.851,588, which would
indicate a growth of over 70 per cent,
since 1890—a most retnaikable in
crease in urbane population.

MUTUAL LIFE INSURANCE CO.
OF NEW YORK.
IS THE OLDEST IN THE UNITED STATES AND
THE LARGEST IN THE WORLD.
Since organization to the present time, it has paid and now holds on

Its dividend record is unsurpassed by any other company uu the world.
It protects your dividends in case of death and provides for your old age.
See that your policy has this clause inserted in it.
As compound results are the source of life of all the old line companies,
what is best for the company should be bast for the insured. And for best
results take a policy in the grand old MUTUAL LIFE.
Fathers see to it that the daughter, the pnde of your heart, when as
sailed by the vicissitudes of life and touched by the .Land o ft ß
be provided with a guaranteed income lor lite. The MU TUAL LIFE, the
strongest financial institution known on the globe—twice as large as tne
Bank of England—writes that guarantee.
And to the patriotic soldier who feels called upon to avenge the wrongs
to his country, we say don’t forget the loved ones at home—the Mutual Life is
prepared to take care of all. And for the benefit of those who have a policy
in this grand old company we give the following extract from a letter of the
president, Richard A. McCurdy:
“I wish you to assure every policy-holder in this Company
that his rights will be fully protected under all circumstances
and tha no one need hesitate to respond to the call of patriot
ism or duty through fear of the forfeiture of his policy.
