Bismarck was one day Io a company

a time, but presently joined in the
conversation, andsald : “Fools pretend
that you can only gain experience at

Dr. Vender, of Lyons, N. Y., who

It Is figured out that the war with
Bpbio cost this country .approximately,
lIUiOO.OOO, which is a very small
price to pay for the commanding posi»
lion it gave the United States among
the nations of the world—to say noth<
ing of the probability that it has saved
us from a much more cosily war in
the near future with some of the much
stronger powers that were threatening
’ us Ledger.
Good, kind, lovable old Joe Wheeler
has had nothing but words of praiao
lor every body who has bad anything
to do with the war. Ho even praisee
and defends the insurgeants. He de*
fends Shafter, eulogises the rough
riders, and seems to be roally in love
with everybody and everything. BJesa
bio old brave, magnanimous, kkadly
soul, there is not in all thio big„ free
country, a man like him, who-haa won
the undivided love and praise of all
people, of all daweo, of all partieo. Joe
Wheeler will yet be president.—Senoia

Although many of the volunteers
are to be mustered out soon, every
dollar that has been borrowed will be
needed. Ytobably it will be necessary
to issue part at least of the remaining
9900,000 000 of the authorised war loan
of 1400,000000 Most likely it will be
necessary to issue more yet, unless the
taxes aro further increased. We have
to raise more men to send out to “our
islands*' for garrison doty, and we are
not likely to gel them without greatly
increasing their pay or offeiing them
liberal bounties. Lee ue hope the
country will find this out before it is
committed irrevocably to the policy of
imperialism Tbe peopls may easily
find it out by asking the returning I
