Mexico Is quite convenient to our borders, and while Uncle Bam is gath ering in real eetate, be might take a notion to scoop the whole of the coun try now held by the Mexicans. The method of trial by jury in Mex ico is very different to the plan in this country. In Mexico, a jury consists of nine men, and the verdicts are made by a majority of this number. When the nine jurors are unanimous, there can be no appeal from the ver diet. The plan is said to work well. Io the little town of Barton, Kan sas, Dine families have their cooking done on the co operative plan, to en sure a greater variety of food at a •mailer coet and to avoid the worry of directing and paying servant girls, The plan is said to be giving entire satisfaction to all of the participants. The two Filipinos, representatives ol Aguinaldo, that arrived in Ban Fran cisco the other day, will visit President McKinley as soon as they can cross the continent, it is said. Tbe Presi dent may receive them as private in dividuals and listen to what they have to Say, but there is no probability whatever that he will receive them as the envoys of Aguinaldo’s party or alleged government. In Washington they will occupy a position similar to that of tbe members of the Cuban jun ta who have been at the capital for two years or more. Tbe Arena of Boston, the only high class magaslne in this country that i has been devoted to tbe interests of tbe free coinage of silver, has suspend ed publication. It is understood .that want of patronage led to the suspen sion. Il is not known that tbe maga zine will be revived. While the pub lication supported ibe silver aide of 1 tbe question, its pages were open to tbe opposition.
