How to Be Proiperoua.
A certain farmer in Texas not a
hundred miles from Gainesville sat
down with hie family to breakfast.
They sat in chairs made in Indiana,
the table was mads in Saint Louis,
the dishes were made in New York,
(he knives, forks and spoons were im
ported from England; the biscuit
were made of flour from Kansas,
shortened with lard from Missouri,
cooked on a stove made io Chicago,
and bis coffee was served with sugar
from Louisiana When breakfast w4s
over be drove to town in a wagon made
in Ohio, while hie son went out with a
S4O gun made in Pennsylvania and an
imported $lO dog to kill 5 cent birds
for dinner. His daughter went riding
bn a S7B in Massachu
setts. Hie wife swept the floor with a
broom from Cincinnati, took up the
dust in a pan made in Vermont, with
a brush made in Rhode Island. The
farmer bought a plow made in Illinois,
a cultivator made in Michigan, hoes
and rakes made in Indiana, and a
reaper made in Chicago. He took
these home and set them cut on a
vacant lot, exposed to the rain and
sunshine, where they were ruined in
one year. That farmer is always com

It is certainly gratifying to the pub

who are not afraid to be generous to
the needy and suffering The propri

given away over ten million trial bot
tles of this great medicine; and have
the satisfaction of knowing it has ab
solutely cured thousands of hopeless
cases. Asthma, Bronchitis, Hoarseness
and all diseases of the Throat, Chest
and Lungs are surely cured by it. Call

Offiioial Fever Report-
Washington, Oct. 12 —The official
dispatches to the marine hospital ser
vice today show that on yesterday
there were ten places in the state of
Mississippi infected with yellow fever;
67 new cases were reported and one
death, which occurred at Harrison.
At Franklin, La., there were 20 new
cases, but they are reported to be of a
mild type, and there were no deaths
there. The outbreak reported at Bay
St. L >uis, Miss, proves to be at Wave
land, a little village four miles this
•ide of the center of the bay. The re
port t;day shows nine cases there.

“One of my children was very delicate and
we despaired of raising it. For months
my wife and I could hardly get a night’s
rest until wo began the use of Pitts’ Car
minative. We found great relief from the
first bottle.” Pitts’ Carminative acts
promptly and cures permanently- It is
pleasant to the taste, and children take it
without coaxing. It U free from injurious
drugs and chemicals.

An Object Lesson.
The decline in the prioe of raw cot- (
ton and the advance in trans-Atlantic (
freight rates afford a most remarkable
object lesson.
An advance in freights accrues to
the benefit, mostly, of British ship
owners. The shrinkage in cotton
values is a lose to American agricnl- 1
tural and commercial interests. (
The results is to largely deerease
the adverse trade balance, due by for- j
eign nations, and particularly by the
United Kingdom, to the United
States. They pay less for our cotton i
and we pay more for transporting
it to their markets. 1
We are perfectly helpless in this '
matter, because we have next to no
merchant marine to carry cotton or
other freight. England rules the
waves and fixes tbe price for trans
porting goods over them. She takes
this method of reducing tbe very
trade balance that she owes us, while
American producers must placidly
witness a depreciation in tbe value of
their products in order to help pay
tbe British bills This is tbe object
lesson.—LaGrange Graphic.

TH EXCELLENCE OF SW OF FMS
is due not only to the originality and
simplicity of the combination, but also
to the care and skill with which it is
manufactured by scientific processes
known to the Calivornia Fig Sraup
Co. only, and we wish to impress upon
all the importance of fmrehasing the
true and original remedy. As the
genuine Syrup of Figs is manufactured
by the California Fig Syrup Co.
only, a knowledge of that fact will
assist one in avoiding the worthless
imitations manufactured by other par
ties. The high standing of the Cali
fornia Fig Syrup Co. with the medi
cal profession, and the satisfaction
which the genuine Syrup of Figs has
given to millions of families, makes
the name of the Company a guaranty
of the excellence of its remedy. It is
far in advance of all other laxatives,
as it acts on the kidneys, liver and
bowels without irritating or weaken
ing them, and it does not gripe nor
nauseate. In order to get its beneficial
effects, please remember the name of
the Company—
