Pope, of Zebulon, one of Pike county’s most prominent men, spent the day here yesterday. Mrs. M C. Cabanisa, of Forsyth, arrived in this city yesterday morning to spend some time with relatives. Rev J. 8 Bryan and daughter, Miss Susie, left yesterday for their home in Covington after a pleasant visit to Griffin friends. Misses Lillian Mann and Sallie Tur nipseed, two of Hampton’s brightest young ladies, were in the city yester day with f riends. C. J. Dunn, of Neals Landing, Fla., who is visiting bis mother at Molena, was circulating among his old Griffin friends yesterday. Tickets for “A Texas Steer” will be put on sale this morning. The indi cations are that a very large bouse will witness this performance. Capt. A. J. Burr, of Company B, Third Georgia regiment, came up from Savannah yesterday to spend a few days with bis wife, before leaving for Cuba. Rev. Chas. W. Curry, who was re cently admitted to the North Georgia conference,left yesterday for Cleve land, Ga , where be will take charge of his church. Capt. J. M. A New Order The American Guild, a fraternal beneficiary order, was organized in this city Wednesday night with twen ty-five charter members. Mans Hicks, who was on trisf. in the city court for selling liquor near a church, was found guilty yesterday and fined SIOO and costs, and failing to pay same will serve e s x months on the chain gang. Only one civil case was tried and that,was the case of Malsby <fc Avry vs. W. W. Grubbs. A verdict was rendered lor the plaintiff. No other cases excepting of minor importance were tiied yesterday. Third May Move Tuesday. Savannah, Dec. B—-The Third Georgia regiment will probably leave Savannah for Neuvitas, Cuba, Monday or Tuesday of next week. The regiment is supposed to go on the transport Chester, which should b back in port by that time. Colonel Berner and bis officers hope there will be no further change in the program this time.
