last night that trade had been very
heavy all day and that bis clerks had
talked themselves hoarse.
Mrs. A. 8. Blake and little child
left yesterday for McDonough, where
they will spend several days with rel
atives. Mr. Blake will go over this
morning to spend the day.
The largest crowd seen in Griffin io
years was here yesterday and the
merchants were kept busy far into the
night. Nutwithstanding the large
number of people here the police made
but one arrest —a negro wbo had
imbibed too freely of corn juice.

store of Bass <fc Heard, at Rome, was
seriously damaged by fire Friday
night at 11 o’clcck. The fire original*
ed in the business office and was caus
ed by fire from the grate. The loss
amounted to several thousand dollars,
but was fully covered by insurance.
