SUNDAY’S CALL.
The past wcex has been a decidedly
brilliant one for Griffin’s social con
tingtnt, and the numerous affairs bare
been both elegant and enjoyable. The
german of .Monday evening at the
Pythian ball opened the holiday fes
tivities in a most delightful manner.
The decorations were artistic and
effclive;the walls and arches were
draped in red, while and blue, and
even the footlights and ceiling were
resple'ndant in stars and stripes. Mr
B. R. Flemister led the dance, and
many new and beautiful figures were
introduced. Music was furnished by
Druckenmiller’s orchestra. Among

Mrs. Thomas Mills entertained the
Current. Topics Club on Wednesday
morning. The meeting was of unusu
ally pleasant moment. Appropriate to
the Christmas season, eggnog was
served, and the decorations in all the
apartments told of the holiday season.
A beautiful Christmas tree, charming*
ly decorated, and bearing lovely gifts
for each of the guests, was a delightful
feature o' the affair—another feature
quite as pleasant, was the very excel
lent lecture on "Water” given by Dr.
E. R. Anthony. At the close of the
meeting, Mrs. Mills thanked the mem
bers of the club in a most happy
manner (or the pretty gift with which
they bad just presented her. The club
will continue to meet on Wednesday
morning.

Miss Smith and Miss Mattie Smith
delightfully entertained the Thirteen
Club at the Nelins House Tuesday af
ternoon last, and the affair was one of
the most elegant of the Christmas so
cial events. The home was beautifully
decorated with mistletoe, and hand
some silver candelebra held waxen
tapers, daintily capped with white and
green shades. The Mieses Smith are
charming young women, and dr-light*
ful hostesses, and an afternoon spent
in their home is always one of unusual
pleasuie and happiness. A delicious
luncheon was served at. 4:30 o’clock,

Di and Mrs. Victor M. Brow n en
tertain d at an elegant and elaborate
luncheon Wednesday, at their pretty
home on Poplar street. The parlors
and halls were profusely decorated
with smilax and bamboo. The man
tels were garlanded with sniilax, and
tranked with holly and mistletoe. The
diningroom was effectively adorned
with La France roses and maiden hair
ferns, and the table, with its delicate
napery and handsome cutglae- and
silver, was a beautiful picture. Mrs.
Brown is a very lovely young woman,
and on this occasion looked unusually
well, in an elegant gown of Cark blue
broad cloath. The skirt was plain, but
perfectly fitting The waist was fin
ished with a tucked y ke of vt.ite sat
in and an elaborate t.aidingof black.
Dr. and Mrs. Brown are delightful em
tertainers, and an invitation to their
attractive home is always accepted
with pleasure. The guests at this
happy affair were Mr. and Mrs. Carl
ton Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Doe,
Mr Clark Brooke, Col Geo I. Jones,
Mr. R F. Strickland, Dr. tnd Mrs.

Mrs. De Forrest Allgood his as her
guest Mrs. Robert J. Lowry, of Atlan
ta. Mrs. Lowry is a beautiful and
very intelligent woman, and s receiv
ing much delightful attention. She
will remain in Griffin about cne week
longer.

A bright and happy occasion was
the Christmas entertainment given by
Miss Gussie Flemister, at heihome on
South Hill street, Wednesday evening.
Miss Flemister received tho guests in
a most graceful manner. She is a
bright ami very attractive girl, and is
exceedingly popular. Wednesday eve
ning she wore a pretty gown of white
organdie, with rose pink collar and
sash. The lovely home van elaborately
adorned. Beautiful colored lights
were seen among delicate cut flowers;
holly and mistletoe decorated the
rooms appropriately for the Christmas
season. At a late hour the guests en
tered the diningroom, which was a
scene of elegance; the- (able was beau
tifully decorat 'd, and a most tempting
supper was served. The affair was a
delightful success, and the evening
will be long remembered by all.

Beeks was (he host at an elaborate
itnner Monday evening, Mr. Beeks
is one of our most brilliant and attrac
tive boys and entertains royally. A
delicious menu was served in the
handsomely appointed dining room.
Mr. Beeks’ guests were Miss Gertrude
Hammend, Miss Horne, of Washing
ton, 1) C , Miss Anna Blount Beeks,
Mr, Thomas Buttrell, of Macon, and
Prof. J. Ellsworth Hall, of Monticello.

Mrs. Thomas J. White and Mi%s
Mollie White very charmingly enter
tained their friends at a lovely card
party- and “T—test” on Wednesday
and afternoons of last week.
The White home on Taylor street is
quite attractive and on the occasion of
these two delightful affaiis was a pic
ture in crimsen and green. Great
sprays of red berried holly tied with
crimson and green ribbons, filled every
available niche and corner, and tbe
lights shone brilliantly and beautifully
through shades of those same bright
pretty colors. Mrs. White is one of
our most popular and attractive young
matrons —she is of the blonde type of
beauty, and is possessed of a rare,
beautiful personality, which wins for
her innumerable friends wherever she
goes. Miss White, who is a very de
lightful and bright young woman, is
noted for her handsome appearance
and is one ot the beet dressed women
in the city. On Wednesday afternoon
Miss White wore a gown of national
blue broadcloth, with an elaborate cor
sage garmiture of white satin and
j black lace applique. On Thursday
afternoon, her gown was of black
taffetas, with trimmings of white
mousselaine and jet. Mrs. White and
Miss White were delightfully assisted
in receiving their guests by little Miss
Georgiana White, who was very charm
ing in a dainty frock of white muslin
with ribbons of crimson and green.
On Wednesday afternoon six hand
euchre -as the game played and en
joyed. The sco r e-cards were hand

Mrs. H. 8. Watt received the consola
tion prize, a dainty puff box.
The “T—test” of Thursday afternoon
was decidedly something new under
the sun and proved quite as enjoyable
as the cards of Wednesday, Tbe
affair was one of those charming
word games which always arouse de
lightful interest, nt the close of the
contest it w found that Miss
Corbin was the fortunate winner of
tbe prize, a pretty bit, of cut glass.
Delicious refreshments were served
and closed the afternoon most happily.

the scene of a lovely entertainment
Friday evening in which a number of
the younger set participated. The
affair was a compliment from the
gentlemen to their young lady friends

Une of the enjoyable holiday affairs
was the card party at which Mrs De
Forrest Allgood entertained Friday
afternoon, in honor of her guest, Mrs.
Robert J..Lowry of Atlanta There
were present about 30 guests, who en
joyed a spirited game of euchre in the
flower decked parlors Among these
decorations, tho palms and ferns
were noticed- as especially handsome.
Christmas greens were also used, with
beautiful effect. Only in tbe reception
room were pink roses used. There the
hostess and her guest of honor receiv
ed tbe callers. Mrs. Lowry wore a
lovely gowti —a silk of lavender and
gray, tvbich was very becoming to the
blonde wearer.. Mrs. Lowefy is agree
ably remembered as one of the most
prominent figtires at the recent Feder
ation meeting in Columbus. Mrs. All
good wore a magnificent gown of peail
satin. She is a queenly brunette, and
a most charming woman. The prized
of the game were lovely—a beautiful
bonbon dish and a dainty rose jar—
were won by Airs. Lowry and Miss
Mollie White A substantial and ele
gant lunch was served at tbe close of
the game. Mrs. Allgood entertains
with an ease and grace that is very
delightful.

Col. and Mrs, Robert J. Redding
entertained a few friends at dinner
Wednesday of last week. The affair

of Col. Redding’s birth, and was
marked by that elegance which char
acterizes all social functions at tbe
Redding home.
The decorations were as lovely as

ding entertained delightfully and left
nothing undone which could add to
the happiness of their guests. Many
handsome gifts attested the love and
esteem which are Col. Redding’s. One
delightful feature of the hour was the
guessing of tbe aggregate age of the
dinnerparty. Mrs. Gamble, of Ham
ilton, was tbe fortunate winner of the
prize—a handsomely framed picture
of Col. Redding Among the guests
were Dr. and Mrs. Collier, Mr. and
Mrs. J. M. Kimbrough, Mrs. J. B.
Gamble, of Hamilton, Mr. Quaintance,
Mrs. Logan, of Atlanta, Mr. and- Mrs.
Seneca Sawtell.

The dinner given on Wednesday
evening by Mr. and Mrs. Douglas
Boyd at their home on Taylor street
was a brilliant social event. The
handsome residence was particularly
lovely in its decorations Stately
palms and graceful ferns gave a bowe
ry look to many charming niches,
and rich hued holly gave the needed
color Io the already beautiful scene.
The dining-room, always a charming
room, was even lovelier than usual in
its holiday attire. The table’s center
piece was a bank of la France roses
and feathery ferns; and in the midst
of this rose tho handsome silver can*
delalra with piuk*shaded tapers. An
elegant menu was served. Among
the many delightful hosts and hostes
ses in Griffin, none can be found
more perfect than Mr. and Mrs. Boyd.
Mrs. Boyd is a stately, beautiful wo
man with all those charming qualities
which makes her so dear to her many
friends. On this occasion she wore

Miss' Reid and Miss llveljn Reid
entertained a number of friends at
“progressive hearts” Saturday morn
ing. The Reid home on
Pbplar street is a very at*
tractive and beautiful one, and
on Saturday morning was unusually
so,- for there were holiday decorations
on all sides, and holiday faces and hol
iday spirits were as bright as the red
berried holly. Progressive hearts was
tbe game enjoyed for an hour, after
which the delightful refreshments
were served in the diningroom which
was exquisite in its decorations and
appointments—here growing plants
and cut flowers and many rcse-shadod
lights were used with indescribably
beautiful efiect. The young hostesses
whose sincere and lovable natures
mingled with a cordial graciousness
of manner made them each delightful
entertainers, were unusually attract
ive on this happy occasion Miss
Reid was lovely in a gown of green
and crimson which was handsome and
very stylish. Miss Evelyn Reid, who
presses with such exquisite taste,
wore a beautiful toilette of brown and
blue. The prizes of she game were as
lovely as possible—a dainty pin-tray
and a beautiful little booklet, and were
won by Miss Hammond and Mrs
Carlton Jones. About fifty guests
were present, and this occasion was
one of the most delightful of the holi
day season.
Miss Lizzie Wilson entertained a
number cf friends at her beautiful
suburban hohie Wednesday evening
Tbe decorations were lovely and very
appropriate to the holiday season.
Miss Wilson is a charming hostess
and gave to her guests a most.delight
ful evening. Tempting refreshments
were served at a late hour.
