In the Presbyterian ('hatch a series
of services will be held during the
present week, Rev J. G. Palton, pas
tor of the church at Decatur, Ga . is
expected to preach every night for a

ist, is a preacher of eloquence and
force. He is but lately returned from
a trip to Palestine and other parts of

dor, called at the department of state
today and served formal notice of the
signature of the peace treaty at Mad

Secretary Hay has indicated his
preference that M. Cambon shall act
as the agent for the Spanish govern

tions This should hasten the last
formalities.
Two letters from General lomez,
dated at Havana on the Gth and Bth
instant, have been received by Gon
zales de Quesda, in which the general
urges that Cuban assembly as well as
the army should dissolve, leaving the
Cuban people free to begin the forma
tion of a government.

Perkin’s Sues for $5,000 Damages
Will Perkins, who was so badly cut
by H. A. Shockley several weeks ago,
has entered suit against Shockley for
$5,000 damages.
Perkins was cut in twenty three
places and shot with a shotgun. At
first it was thought that he could not
live, but he has improved right along
and now the doctors are confident
that he will pull through without fur
ther trouble.
He will be represented in his dam
age suit by Co’s- E F. Dupree, S. N.
Woodward and C. R Gwyn.
Shockley will be represented by Col.

Flynt raided a negro bouse in the
rear of Bowden Bros livery stable last
night a?d captured three colored
sports.
There were others in the room but
at the approach of the officers they
dashed through a window, carry ing the
sash with them and made their es
cape although they were fired at by
the officers.
Those captured weie Oliver Sims,
John Bishop and Alonzo Jones, who
are now in the city prison.
