Cutting Affray.
At Molina, this county, on Satur
day night last was witnessed one of
those heartrending scenes, that few
few men like to see. The shot gun
and the knife were the weapons hau
died by men filled with madness. As
we get the facts,a difficulty occurred,
at Molina Saturday night last be
tween Mr. J. W. Gordv and Mr,
John Parks. Both parties armed
themselves with |their shot guns
and were proceeding to do quick
work, which was ayeried by the
prompt intervention of several par
ties. Being disarmed of their guns,
they resorted to the pocket knife.
Mr. Parks received tWogashes in the
back and one in ’he oreast. Mr.
Gordy receive J a. cut on the hand.
Dr. Steadman, in attempting to part
them receive a severe cut on the hand.
Mr, John Howard, also had his hand
badly cut. Mr. Gordy’s little thirteen
year old son, received a painful gash
in the shoulder.
Our informant thinks that no one
was mortally wounded. We have not
been aide to learn the cause of the
trouble.—[Barnesvlle Gazette.

Special Correspondence News.
Watcross, Ga., Fob. 14.
The Griffin delegation to the Geor
gin State Agricultural Convention
left Griffin on the 8:20 train yeeter
v*ay morning and arrived at Alba
ny, Ga., about 2:30 o’clock p. in.
On investigation after our arrival
there wo found we would have to
wait over there until 11 o’clock last
night to get a train to bring us to
Waycross. So your humble Bervant
and various others that bad fallen
in with ns concluded to stay over
in Albany and get a night’s sleep
and take the morning train that left
there at five o’clock this morning.
We did so and then got there in
time this morning. I will say just
here for the information *f your
many readers that farmers on the
road from Macon down seem to be
well up with ibeir work. A great
rnasy oats have been sown and are
up and looking well, especially from
Smitbville to Albany. I saw them
plant ng corn in Dougherty county.
I saw some oats today that was
sown last fall six inches high and
some rye that was three feet high.
And now for the convention . It
is unnsnally large ! y attended. I sup
poso there are 350 in attendance
The citizens of Wsycrcss are going
to entertain the eutire crowd free
of expenses during our 6tay here.
The Savannah & Jacksonville Rail
road has offered the entire conven
tion a free excursion over the road
to Jacksonville, Fla., und return.
There is one of the grandest expo
sitiou going on thero of tropical
fruits of Florida, the Bahama Islands
aod other places that have been ex
hibited perhaps on this coalinsnt* I
think nearly or quite all of the mem
bers of the convention will go. We
aro hurrying up business, trying to
get through by tomorrow night, and
go down (o Jacksonville T. Of day
morning. I cannot write all the
news even up to this time thit 1
want to write—it would make the
communication too long. I will say
just here that I was instrumental in
having you made an honorary mem
ber of our society in Spalding, and
you have never attended one of our
meetings. If you had, you might
have been delegated to this conven
tion and been assigned some promi
nent position. I see by the pro
gramme your brother from Ameri
cus is invited to address the conven
tion on the subject of “Economy in
Farm Labor.” You may look for
something rich and racy in my next.
Respectfully, &c.,
S. W. Bloodworth.

«p. Aaron is an ebony lined darky
who was caught by Officer Cunning

ing a pistol at a passenger train, but
on the approach of the policeman he
concealed the weapon in his pocket,
and the present charge was that of
carrying concealed weapons. The
defense was managed by Co!. Thur
man and the somewhat novel use ot
the pica of temporary insanity gave
a spice to the trial and proved sue
cessfui with the able and intelligent
jury. All ol Aaron’s relatives
came forward and swore that from
his youth up he was given to fits
every lime the moon changed, at
which time he was given pistols and
othc harmless toys to amuse himself
with. Tite moon having changed a
night or so befote the amusing occur
rence which the officer so ruthlessly
iutenupted, Aaron fished his pistol
out of the bureau drawer and proceed
•J forth to cool his fevered mind—or
rather the vacuum where his mind
had been, but which which was now
filled with moonshine—with a little
innocent fun. Colonel J hurrnan
made it appear on cro-s examinatun
that the minions of the law bad acted
in a very dreadful manner by setting
a trap to catch the fitified young man
in the midst of his childlike diver
sions. Another witness testified that
Aaron was simply bringing the pis
tol to him to make him a little pres
ent, or to get a little change while
the moon was on the change. Such
a clear flood of moonshine was thrown
upon the case by these witnesses
of dark of the moon countenances
that the jnry immediately went out
and brought in a verdict of not gnil
ty. So that it may hereafter be
deemed lawful to carry concealed
weapons when the uioon is iu the
right phase, and policemen must car

THE WORK OF REFORM.
The New Tariff Measire to Command
General Support.
Wahinoton, Feb. 16. [Special. J —
An arlent revenue reformer com
plained today to Mr. Scott, of tbe
Ways and Means Committee, that he
thought it strange that it took so
long for the Democrats on the com
rnittee to prepare the tariff bill. Mr.
Scott replied; “Well, I admit that
it does seem a long time, but there
is reason for it. 1 have been a hard
woiking man all my lib-, but I as
sun yon that I have done more bard
woik in tbe last month than ever be
fore. No one Las any idea how
much woik ;.s required to perfect a
tariff bill. There has not been three
nights iu three weeks, that we have
not worked until long after midnight,
It was 2 o'clock this morning before
we got through. What are we do
ing. you ask? Why, going over
schedule after schedule, comprising
page after page. Tbe tariff duties
aro tedious, complicated aud im
mense. It looks sometimes like we
would never get through with the
job. What wo are trying to do is to
bring iu a bill that will command the
cordial support of the country, it
is easy enough to make a tariff bill,
but tbe thing is to make a tariff bill
so fair and just that it will be strong
enough of itself, on its own merits
b!e provisions, to go through the
Boose and Senile and become a
law. We are gettiog np a good bii)
f
aud I tbink it will command the sup
part and vote of every Democrat on
the floor, if uot a number of Republi
cine. There are a number of mem
bers scheming to prolong discussion
on the tariff until tbe House ie dis
heartened, and then rush through a
substitute taking only tbe tux off su
gar and tobucco. I think these mem
bers will be fooled in their object,
for I Iu lit vc t'.e bill now being pra
pa*ed by the Ways and Means Com
mi: o will be eo just and equitable,
lb. , all fa:r men will see the
