Committee met at tbc Markham
Room in Atlanta on Wednesday af

lion;
Tbe Dcmociacy of the Stale ef
Georgia will meet at Atlanta on
Wednesday, May 9tb. at 12 o’clock
to aelect delegates to the National
Democratic convention to be held at
St. Louis in June.
On Wednesday, August btb, a coo
veutiou will be held at the came bonr
and place, for the purpose of putting
in nomination a governor, St »te
House officials snd Presidential
Electors.
Resolved. That the state democrat
ic executive committee recommend
that tbe democracy of Georgia, io
each county, select their delegates,
in such mode as tbe execative com
mittee of each county may adopt, for
tbe first convention, on tbe first Toes
day in May, and for tbe second con
vention on the first Tuesday in Inly.
Resolved, That each county in tbis
state be entitled to double the num
ber of votes that the county has rep
resentatives in the lower house of the
general assembly.
Ilfisolved, That each couuty be re
quested to select as alternates tbe
same number of persons at the same
time and in the same manner as it se
lects delegates-, and that tbe commit
tee recommend that eacB county at
tbe lime of its election of said dele
gates pass resolutions requesting the
state convention not to admit any
delegate unless he be regularly select
ed, either as a delegate or as an alter
nate, and that no person tot a citi
zen of the county be allowed to rep
resent said county as a delegate by
proxy, and these resolutions apply
to both conventions.
E. P. Speer writes from VVasking
ton as follows:
“Judge Stewart got in the bouse
and made his maiden speech the
other day. He only had five min
otes, under the rule, but he knocked
a vety large hole into one of these
western land schemes and made the
lobby howl. It was » measure to
let the speculators in some Kansas
tan*Is belonging to the Peoria Indi
ans, combined with the proposition
to divide their territorial possessions
into severalty, and to compel the
government to pay them 1100,000
held for them as a trust fund. The
bill got through, but the judge
wrecked this last proposition. He
came up to the line like a veteran
and a number of old memoers came
up to him and congratulated him
when he was done.”
