A Negro Church Blown Down.
McDoHOtfGH, Ga., July 24.
Editor News—A violent storm
passed over a portion of this county,
this evening between 5 and 0 o’clock,
doing considerable damage to the
growing crops. The rainfall was
heavy for about one hour, mixed with
hail, almost covering the ground, and
damaging the crops materially. The
wind was very severe, doing much
damage, blowing dowu the colored
Methodist church of this place, in
which a district meeting was being
held, killing one of the delegates
from Jonesboro, named James Smith.
Five others were badly hurt by the
falling of the church, some having
limbs broken, but were promptly at
tended by the physicians, and it is
thought no othe” lives will be lost.
No other damage was done in town
except the blowing down of signs. I
will give you full particulars tomor
