Again the orchards hold to view
A tempting, luscious prize—
A wealth of fruit that ruddy grew
Beneath the summer skies.
The grape leaves, curling, crisp and brown,
Display the vineyard’s purpling crown.
A sharpness in the raon ing air—
A beauty new that thrills—
Rich gleams of gold and scarlet where
Are wooded vales and liilln;
And by the roadside yellow plumes
Of golden rod and aster blooms.

At his home, yesterday, four miles
Irom Griffiu, Mr. Charles Hammond,
fumiliarlyjknowu as ‘‘Uncle Charley”
passed quietly away. For some
months past Mr. Hammond has been
far from well, suffering from a com¬
plication of diseases, which were ren

his soul weary of its bodily sufferings
took its flight and today numerous
