HOMICIDE AT SUNNY SIDE!
JOHN T. HADAWAY KILLS FRANK
WILLINGHAM
And Delivers Himself Up to the Sheriff
—The Killing Evidently in
Self Defense.
Shortly after the four o’clock train
came in .yesterday afternoon, John
T. Hadaway, of Sunny Side, deliver¬
ed himself ip here to Sheriff Con¬
nell, having killed Frank Willing¬
ham. He was accompanied to town
by many friends, some of whom had
witnessed a part of the difficulty.
The prisoner gave the following
account of the unfortunate
affair, whick was sustaiaed by
G, W. Wood, a part witness. He
had loaned Willingham at twelve
o’clock a wagon to be used hall an
hour. At two o’clock, the wagon
not coming back and he having u»e
for it himself, he went alter it aud
found it standing fuil of seed cotton.
He demanded the wagon of Willing¬
ham, when the latter, who was
drunk, said it would require a double
barrelled shot gun to get it. Ilada-
way persisted in bis demand,
upon Willingham sprang upon and
knocked him down, he being crippled
in one foot. Willingham said he
would cut Hadaway’s throat and pro¬
ducing a large pocket knife he
upon Hadaway while on the ground
and was about to execute his
when Hadaway drew a small
barrel revolver and shot Willingham
through the body. Tbe latter
already inflicted a few slight
upon iiadaway’s bead and chewed
up one finger, and after the shot
succeeded in getting away
pistol and was about to
Hanaway through tbe head but
a negro took the revolver
and Wood, who bad come up, took
Willingham off his would bo victim.
Willingham died in about fifteen
minutes afterward.
The deceased was a notoriously
bad character, being a rowdy
bully, drinking to excess and
Jeering .ruiu. bis uis family. .»^i.j- While everybody *
regrets tbe occurence, yet all

way. The commitment trial will
probably take place at Gray's court
ground tomorrow.
