Nomination of County Officer* in Pike.
Orthodox Democrat.
On the 7th inst at Zobulon the con
vention of delegates from each dis¬
trict ia the county met for the pur
pose of nominating county officers.
Upon motion the present ordinary
and sheriff were renominated by ao
•lamation. After this nomination
there was some skirmishing as to
which side should have the office of
olerk of the superior court, that be
ing the next office to be tilled. This
office by virtue of right should have
gone to the anti side of the conven¬
tion, and no doubt such would have
been the case if the antis had not
been so unmindful of duties one to
another as tor tome of them to vote
squarely for men on tbe opposite
side, thereby hoping to secure otbei
offices. The nomination resulted in
Mr. D. C. Hightower of this place as
the man for the clerk. The presen
incumbent Capt. VV, D. Redding wa*
chosen as receiver of tax return* for
the next two years.
The office of tax collector was
given to Rev. C. W. Oliver much to
the gratification of his friends, as
well as to himself.
The office of coroner, surveyor
and of county treasurer were alioted
to the present incumbents. As to
county commissioners the two who
now hold office ware renominated by
acclamation. To fill the other office
of county commissioner John E.
Gardner was chossn.
The convention manifested os tbe
whole a spirit of harmony, which
seems to very much gratify the
members of tbe convention as well
as those who were present as speo
tators, and now our grand old noun
ty is again one fraternal brotherhood,
being united by the ties of true de
mocraey.
