Mineral and timber resources attract

The indications we that Baltimore
and Washington are to become more
like one fifty than ever. A scheme is
now taking shape for the building of
a great boulevard over the forty
miles between the two. It is to be
150 feet wide, straight and level.
Thirty feet is to be prepared for
heavy travel, thirty feet laid in as¬
phalt for carriage and light vehicles,
and thirty feet for cable or electric
ears. Thirty feet on each side will
be reserved and paved for foot pas¬
sengers, and the scheme includes
shade trees, shrubbery, fountains
and other embellishments. The cost
is estimated at two millions of dol¬
lars. The Idea is that the boulevard
would be lined with residences, as its
facilities for reaching either of the
largest and most pleasant cities in
the country would make it irresisti¬
bly attractive.
MEMPHIS DEFIES THE ALLIANCE
Now what will the Alliance men do
since the Memphis Exchange has
unanimously rejected the proposed
tare of the New Orleans Cotton con¬
vention?
They declared that they would not
send their cotton to a city which did
not adopt the new rule, and nearly
all the exchanges of Southern cities
are falling into line, but Memphis,
the largest interior cotton market
in theooontry, rejects the rule and
has decided to sell cotton and jute
covered bales on their merits.
The farmers nowhave a chance to
ahotr their strength ana the sinceri;
ty of their intentions. Will they
keep their cotton out of Memphis
or continue at the old stand? The
cotton receipts of that market laet
season were about three-quarters of
a million bales and we shall be able
to see by the comparative receipts
this season what the formers are go¬
ing to do about the defiance of the
Memphis Exchange.

Parties who were digging into an
old Indian mound at Southerland’s
bluff, twelve miles from Darien, Wed¬
nesday, discovered an old earthen
pot which contained petrified human
bones and a skull. The teeth were
still in place and were in good condi¬

The bones are supposed to be those
of some Indian warrior, who was
buried there when he made his trip
to the happy hunting grounds.
