Sell# Brother* and Barrett’* Two
Show* Baited.
A striking example of the result of
pluck, energy and honorable deeding
is the success of Sells Brothers. Sev-
fceen years ago they embarked in the
hazardous, and in that time suppos¬
ed illegitimate business of running
a circus, but, by following a straight
forward course and applying business
rules as is done in the mercantile pur¬
suit, they have overcome the many
difficulties that beset them, and from
poverty to opulence their pathway
has been alwayscreditable. No unful¬
filled pledges, no broken promises, no
disappointments lor the people mark
a place in tbe line of their march.
This year, more than any former
one, will be memorable because of the
multiplied attractions that have
been added. A daily expense of *300
seventeen years ago has been increas¬
ed year by year until nowit averages
oYer *6,000 daily, and yet they do
not halt. Barrett’s big show, in
which they were formerly silent part¬
ners, has been added entire this sea¬
son, making for the first time in the
history of showB a legitimate and
bona fide consolidation of two big,
fully equipped shows, united into one
vast organization, yet each distinct¬
ive feature retained. These two shows
will spread a huge cloud of canvas
in this city on Thursday, Oct. 3d,
and exhibit conjointly for one price
of admission.

TMC LIGHT PLANT.
^ —-
k Eye for tbe Ikowbtln*
•Somepeople have had their doubts
about toadty ever getting electric
lights, notwithstanding the
and mtiafoetory pro virions of
present contract. While It most be
be admitted that past
ba* given some ground lor doubt,
yesterday's transaction in this line
goes far to give assurance of a more
satisfactory aspect of affairs
A tirade was made yesterday and
tbe deeds passed for a site for a
Thomson-Houston electric light
plant. As this company is not known
to ba simply speculating in Griffin
real estate, this looks very much
like burintes on their part.
The spot selected is a half am tot
on tbe east side of Sixth street, be¬
tween Solomon and Broadway
streets, and was the property of Mrs.
8. W. Logan. The terms are kept
private, but are said to be sat
tory to koth parties.
The contract for the building will
be let in a few days, as soon aa the
tods are all in. The machinery, con¬
sisting of a fifty are dynamo and an
eighty hone power Ball engine, is
said to have been ordered six days
ago and wil be here in about three
weeks. Owing to the inability of the
company to fill their orders prompt¬
ly, an alternating incandescent dy¬
namo wiilnot be pnt in at once, but
satisfactory arrangements will be
made for *11 incandescent lights re.
qnired.

Long h&d they sat in the gloaming,
listening to the soft music of the cool
breezes that stirred the lea vm of the
noble elm whose shapely branches
stretched above them.
“Laura,” said the young man, as
he crushed the young life out of a
winged rnsecfc whose attentions had
bored kim considerably, “I saw a
statement in a paper today that if
you hold year breath when a mosqui¬
to is biting yon ft can’t draw its bill
out, and you can kill it in the act.’
“Horror*!’ exclaimed the gentle
girl, as she shuddered and drew her
fleecy wrap ek>8*r about her lovely
form. “The idea, George, of letting
a mosquito sting you long enough
to find onr such a thing! I could
never endure it!”
“And that reminds me,” continued
George, as he made a wild jab at the
back of his neck and closed the earth¬
ly career ofone more confiding insect ,
“of another statement I saw in the
same paper—that people always bold
their breach when they—er—when
they kiss.”
A silence followed more eloquent
than the softly spoken words of tbe
young man It was broken at last
by the voic* of the lovely Laura.
“George,’ she said, in low, quickly
uttered, wiling-to-test-it-in-the-inter-
est-of-scieme accents, “I feel a mos¬
quito biting me!”
The wind sighed faintly in the free
tops, the voice of the katydid rasped
the patient air, the stars glimmered
and twinkled in the blue, ethereal
firemament, and at the end of nearly
guided three-quarters of a minute miserably. that mis¬
mosquito perished
Small Change Scarce.
There is \ great scarcity of small
change in fie city. Large quantities
of it have teen carried to the coun¬
try to payoff cotton pickers, and
the banks jure kept drained of it.
This will last bat a short time, how¬
ever. It vfll soon find its way back
and will accumulate in tbe bank
vaults tutil cotton chopping time,
when it rill again go to the coun¬
try to pay for that, aad will again
gradnaly drift into the channels of
trade and find its way to the tills
