Tom Hastings, of Keely Co. in this
city, left yesterday morning for At-'
lanta, where he will remain until af¬
ter the exposition, he being needed by
his house in that city.
Mollie and Nancy Freeman had a
colored fight on T. J. Brooks planta¬
tion, in which Nancy got the worst
of it. She got her revenge yester¬
day by an action in tbeconsty court,
which cost Mollie $26, but was
promptly paid.
The street force while cutting down
a grade jnst across the C. R. B. from
the City Hall struck rock ore which
competent judges say has at least
78 per cent, of iron in it. The vein
which is near the surface is small, but
from the direction it takes may lead
to any quantity farther down.
The banks failed to close yesterday
and no services were held in the Grit
fin churches, notwithstanding the

dan was authorised to make the

cover the engineering and prelimin¬
ary expenses, whenever he deemed it
advisable. The pnrpoee of this com¬
pany is to bnBd the Georgia and
Tennessee railroad, which is to con¬
nect the Georgia Midland with the
Chattanooga, Borne and
road, and such other railroad work
as may come incidentally to this
enterprise.
It is understood that Messrs.
