No form of communication with
the public is so cheap as newspaper
advertising; no agent issomoderate
in his charge and none so untiring in
his work as the live newspaper.

Chas. G. Morris, recently connect¬
ed with Griffin journalism. is now do¬
ing well as city editor of tiwf Mont¬
gomery Evening Journal. He writes
that he will likely come over here on
Christmas.
Col. E. P. Speer, a former promi¬
nent citizen of this place, now the
able Southern correspondent of the
Baltimore Manufacturers Record,
was in the city yesterday circulating
among his many friends.
It has been discovered that the
pretty girl who takes time by the
forelock in her work for the holidays
is busying herself just now with all
manner of dainty inutilities in , the
way of hags. For her dearest girl
friend she makes button bags, six
tiny ones all on a string. Each bag
is made out of a scrap of bright hued
silk and every scrap is of a different
color. A rainbow tinted collection is
produced, very kaleidoscopic and
cheerful. The object of the button
bag multiplication is to separate
more effectually buttons of different
ranks and degrees. For her best
young man—alas, in his inmost soul
he may call it “jinks” andsmileupon
it derisively—she makes a card bag.
This is of silk, satin, or plush and
just large enough for a pack of cards.
On the outside is appliqued in colors
an exact similitude of the queen of
hearts. This is couched down with
embroidery threads and elaborately
wrought with silken stitches.

Pomona is having quite a building

a store house just south of the old

Recently it waa orchids.
Last year and this it te chrysanthe¬
mums.
Chrysanthemums will stay longer
than orchids. They are very pretty
and very much cheaper. Though
the name is longer to write and with
many people does not go so trip¬
pingly over the tongue.
Ten of our largest cities have held
or will hold chrysanthemum exhibi
tions this fall.
In Griffin there is a perpetual chrys¬
anthemum show daring the whole
season, lasting until Christmas time,
Nowhereelse are these flowers grown
to better perfection, in larger variety
or greater profusion.
Mrs. Wm. Warder, of Willoughby
Hill, one of the Griffin suburbs, had
an exhibit at the exhibition in Atlan¬
ta yesterday and the day before, and
the Constitution said of it that “The
display sent from Griffin by Mrs.
Warder was so arranged that each
variety could be seen and admired to
itself. Among the collections were
many new and exquisite varieties
and each flower was brought to per
fection by the highest cultivation.”
“Thenext table wasflHed with Mrs.
S. M. Waytnan’s collections from
Pomona. This was very fine aad
beautifully arranged with a pryamid *
in the centre.”
But we will warrant that few of the
displays excelled the exhibit now on
the News anp Sun centre table every
day from the garden of Griffin’s
most ardent admirer of flowers.
The chrysanthemum wedding is the
latest thing. The house in New Turk
in which one of the fashionable au¬
tumn weddings took place recently
was a bower of flowers. Pots of
chrysanthemums were ranged abdut
the pretty reception hall on four
sides. Upon the banisters were tied
at close intervals bunehes of chrys¬
anthemums fasiened with ribbons.
The daorwayB of the parlors were
arched with ferns and white chrysan¬
themums, garlands of the same were
festooned about the walls, white
roses, white geraniums and chrysan¬
themums filled the fireplaces and
canopied the mantels. A gigantic
horseshoe of ferns and white flowers
marked out the floor space where the
bride and groom took their posi¬
tions and a floral bell of the same
blossoms hung above their heads.
White chrysanthemum garlands lay
on every table and were presented to
the guests in attendauce. The bride
and bridesmaids wore white chrysan¬
themums. ^
A great many of these flowers were
used in the decoration of Capt. and
-Mrs. W. J. Kincaid's house at the re¬
cent marriage of their daughter, and
the effect waB very pretty.
Long live the chrysanthemum I—
until some equally beautiful and
more fragrant flower comes to usurp
its place.
