square. Anything, from a rat to an ole
pliant, will be rode, although there are
more of the former than of tho Inter spo-
cios in our vicinity.
We gave an order the other day, to that
enterprising agent lor Chas. Stewart A
Co.. Mr. Jo. Davenport, for a ton of print
paper, and now new subscribers can rush
in as fast ns they may want to, there will
bo no danger of running out of paper for
at least one issue.

now being rapidly taken in tho Ameri
cas Building and Loan Arsociatioii, nml
Hope to soou chronicle the fact that it is
ready to commence operations. Every
mau in tho city should take ouc or more
shares iu tho Association, as a more safe
and profitable investment could not be

ability and integrity, who will see that
the affairs of tho Association are efficiently

little six year old son died of malarial fe

Capt. G. M. Patterson, who is well
known in and around Americas, we are
informed was on Friday, tho Ctli, takon
very ill with typhoid malarial fever, and
and up to the present time was not ex-
peotsd to recover.
We were pleased to grasp by tho hand
on yesterday our old friend Thus. A.
Brannan, for ninny years a resident ot
this city, hut now living in Americas. Ga.
He is looking well, even if he is just out

Mias Hattie Warren, who has been
visiting friends here for a few weeks, on
Wednesday last returned to her home in
Kirkwood. While here she made many
friends, especially among the gentlemen,

Superior Court convened on Monday,
Judge Crisp presiding. The ghindjury
have found ten bills of indictment, and
are still working for the interests of tho
county. Among the bils found is one
against Ann Moulton for kidnapping.
The criminal docket will be taken up
next Monday morning. Following are

most successful newspaper business in
Southwest Georgia—of course we moan

A pleasant and numerous company as

en at that residence once every year.

ber of enrious mistakes wero mado whilo
the dominoes were being worn, that <
ed a good deal ol amusement and some
euihurrasment. Tho dancing was kept
np until a lute hour by the young people.
Col. Huwkiiis is widely noted for his hos
pitality, and nobody ever regrets being
his guest.

At the prize drill of the Americus Light
Infantry in their armory on Wednesday
evening last an umusiug incident occur
red. Tho drill had narrowed down to
threo men, Tucker Stallings, Judson Hy
att, nud Will Jones, wheu Lieutenant
Burnett gave a command which two, Hy
att nud Jones interpreted ouo way, and
Stallings another, and which they appeal
ed to Capt. Watts to decide, Tho Capt.
looked at them a moment nud then snid:
“One of you nre right, and two aro wrong,
or two of you uro right and one is wrong."
Ho was right.

Last Tuesday as the ufternoou mail
truiu was entering this city going North
it met with uu accident that seldom oc-
urs ton train. It was just below the
switch below tho depot, ttud was pulling
in ns swiftly un 1 us easy as could be im
agined, when, without the slightest warn
ing the lust driving wheel on the right
side dropped off and fell on tlic ground,
striking it with a thud, and sinking in
until the surface of the ground almost
covered it. Fortunately the truin was
stopped before any greater damage was
done. It seems that the axle had been
cracked for some time, and that tho wear
and struiu oil it hud finally broken it off,
with the above result. There huppuued
to he nuothcr engine behind, and the
broken one a as propped up nud pushed
beyond the switch, so that the other one
might get aroitud with the coaches. As
it was, the passengcis war- delayed for
some hours.

and J. L. Hyatt, who stood up with him
