gates arc Montrord, Willis, Frier
son. Mathews, Colbert, Carson,

Several other telegrams were re.

same thing. Nothing has been
heard, so far as we can learn, about
the Ciubernalional delegates, and
how Kiev were instructed.
The Kastman Times, on behalf of

have already been taken to provide
visitors with comfortable accommo

Congress on Monday suspended
the rules and passed the pension
appropriation bill without debate
or a call of the yens and nays. The
bill appropriates (100,000,000, and
less than ten minutes’ time was re
quired to pass it. Tills is believed
to be the largest sum ever voted by
the house under sueli circum
stances. The only explanation
Monroe Frederick, un insubordi-
vict, was shot at the con-

Njjrtli Qeorgia railroad last week.
Post-Appeal: Information has
reached ns that some man down in
Macon is out gunning for the city
editor of the Telegraph, Mr.
Bridges Smith. Such a course is
absurdly foolish, it is quite im
possible for Bridges Smith to write
anything against a man (especially
is it so in this case; with any
malice. And if there is no malice,
for attempt to hold him personally
responsible is ridiculous.

Marietta Journal: Judge A. X.
Simpson, who lias been nlllictcd j
with a cancer on his right lined for
a long time, and after trying the
waters of Eureku Springs without
experiencing relief, returned l->
Marietta lust, week and decided to
have his arm amputated. On last.
Saturday, Dr. I’eniieiit, of this
place, very successfully performed
the operation, cutting the arm oil
above the elbow. Dr. A. Reynolds,
Sr., Dr. Homer Reynolds, Dr.
Cortclyon were present and ren
dered assistance. Dr. John Simp
son, son of Judge S., was also
present. It is thought the cancer
is merely local and that the ampu
tation will give permanent, relief.
Judge S., endured the operation
with a good deal of fortitude and
is quite hopeful of recovery.

Mr. liayire is a member of Con
gress for I'cnnsyvnnia; not a wick
ed democrat, but one who on all
occasions lias boon ready to warn
the country against the dangers of
democratic rule. Ho lias for many
years often held aloft the bloody
shirt, and cried himself hoarse in
decrying against rebels and demo
crat*. But lately ho lias a new ob
ject of terror. Now it is the ad
ministration he lias been wont to
uphold. On Monday in Rpeaking
on the bill for limiting the tenure
of internal revenue collector's, in
the course ol his opposition to the
bill he said: “Who ever dreamed
that these oflioers were insecure
until the incoming of this adminis
tration and its policy of proscrip-
tion ? It is proposed to remove
faithful and honest men, to make
room for henchmen, in order to ad
vance the political ends of a fac
tion of the Republican party.”
Talk in this strain naturally creat
ed quite a sensation among bis
party associates. He was asked
sarcastically by one of them if lie
was authorized to speak' for the
administration. He replied, “God
forbid that l should be the mouth
piece of tills administration.”
These are not comfort^g words to
the stalwarts. But inasmuch ns
they have encouraged bis abuse
of democrats, the latter will not
protest against these utterances.
